I think this kinda started when the Jews after WW2 came to the middle-east, taking over Palestinian land. The Palestinians invaded, but the Israelis, who were supplied with modern weapons, easily defeated the Palestinians, and took even more land.

The fight is based around the Gaza strip, the west bank, and the Golan heights, with both Palestine and Israel claiming it's their divine right (Decreed by their god) to occupy that land. The fight goes back 73 years and there have been lots of attempts to resolve the peace with each of their claims being supported by different nations. The Jews believe the land belongs to them because God gave it to them as the promised land when they escaped from Egypt. The Palestine believe there are many Palestine prophets buried there and a lot of mosques are located there. The land is holy to both sides so they want to claim it.
