Explaining different uses of the coconut.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>We Do: (5 mins)</strong></p><p>Making a List from the short story and from prior knowledge.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>They Do (20 mins):</strong>Make a list of their own. What other uses do you think there are for coconuts?</p><p>Pick 1 and sketch what it will look like. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>We Do (10 mins):<br></strong>Spotlight 4 individuals. Close lesson with extension.Students will be asked to have sketches ready for exit ticket check.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Stretch Activity: </strong>Take your sketch and ask family members about their thoughts. (Problem &amp; Solution focus).</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Assessment:<br></strong>* Formative Assessment: </p><p>Student personal list and sketch</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Evaluation:</strong>90% of students will complete their personal list of coconut uses and sketch checks will be exit tickets.Remaining 5% will complete the sketch as homework.</p>]]></description>

It  flexes and then returns to its original position.<br>***Coconut trees were used by the samoan people to mark land boundaries.<br>**** Several samoan proverb (Alagaupu) words originate from the coconut trees. Ethnomath Weaving with the coconut tree<br><br><strong>I do (20 mins): <br></strong>Model simple weaving of a Samoan Mailo.<br>*Discuss patterns and number order by even or odd figures.<br><br><strong>We do (25 mins):<br></strong>Weaving activity as a class. <br>Be creative: Make your own model of weaving style<br>(e.g. headbands, ropes, or toys).<br><br><strong>Closing (5 mins)</strong>Note creation and see if it will fit your sketch.
