I think one thing that really stood out to me was the way the film didn't just address how police brutality affects the black community but also how it affects other non-black POC communities. This made me want to do more research and dive deeper into how exactly police brutality negatively impacts other POC communities.

Something that stood out to me about the films I watched last thursday and today was the amount of history that goes untaught. What did you learn from the films you watched last Thursday and today? I learned a lot from both films and the best way i can summarize what i learned was that there is a lot to learn about black history. What did they make you wonder? How do these films explore and expand your understanding of black history? These films made me wonder what the impact of teaching more black history would have and how it could help people understand.

It reflects upon life and societal standards and stereotypes thrown onto us, while speaking truth to what it's really like to be black in America and many other places. It's a creative form of expression that is important, as not all people have the platform to share their message verbally, and I think it resonates with the viewer in a different way.

They also depicted African American life through colors shapes and lines which I thought was very abstract.

One thing that stood out to me was the interviews with the parents of children who had been killed due to police brutality. They highlighted two so far in the movie. The mother of Tamir Rice and the parents of Oscar Grant It must have been very very difficult for them to relive the horrors of their children deaths. When I was watching I could see how much pain they felt, and how their communities struggled, but put so much effort into helping change the unjust atmosphere around them. I thought that the movie really conveyed the message that difficult and emotional conversations have to be held. I thought that the parents were willing to be in the movie because they knew their children's stories had to be told. I thought it made the movie even more impactful because of all the emotion.

I learned that when a shot was accidentally fired, a huge brawl started, and that sparked the riot where thousands of homes were burned down and many people lost their lives. This shows us how far we have come as a society in regards to race, and even though there are more issues that need to be addressed, compared to 100 years ago, we are doing pretty well.

I learned about the history of black women wearing head wraps which I thought was interesting. I never realized how hard it was for black women to get safe and acceptable beauty products for such a long time either. I also learned about why black women may have bleached their skin in order to feel safer.

One thing that stood out to me in the video was the story of the one woman who had worked as a liaison with the police and how she was attacked by police officers. I just found it crazy that even though she was calm and wasn't really doing anything that went against what they were saying the cops were still harassing her and calling her all sorts of awful things while hitting her for wanting to protect her kids.
