Over the years this area has undergone a major reforestation which has transformed the ancient hilly terrain into a fresh and welcoming wooded area above all but very evident within an arid and stony area like the surrounding one. The forest park of Calaforno extends for about 600 meters above sea level, and is characterized by the presence of pines and along the paths of oriental plane trees. The name Calaforno takes its cue from a series of cavities that are located further downstream, first of all the Calaforno cave (which is followed by further details in the appropriate section) consisting of a series of rooms (about 35) used in past eras as a necropolis and subsequently transform into housing. It is hoped that over the years the park will become a regional protected area even if the Sicilian Region has not yet pronounced itself in this sense. Today the equipped area sees the presence of various wooden infrastructures such as tables and benches for a total capacity of about 250 seats.
