We will mutually decide who we see and discuss things like whether we have seen a band perform before, the likelihood of them playing again soon, how much they would cost to see solo in comparison to other acts etc. We attend gigs together often and are familiar with discussing line ups and set lists/times. Once the timetable announcement is made, we will use the clash finder tool on the Bloodstock website to make sure there are no overlaps in our choices.

There are no explicit conventions to the layout of the website however, it is accessible through various devices and easy to navigate. The text features a hyperlink to a page describing traders at this years festival but unfortunately it is not accessible at the moment. It can be assumed that this is because the festival is 7 months away and the event organizers will complete this section of the website once all traders have been booked and finalized. The text is set out as an easy to read paragraph with left hand alignment and written in full sentences with correct punctuation used. The language is structured in an informative way but not so informal that it feels overly professional. The meaning behind the text is purposeful and helpful to the user, there is nothing imposing about the language used and it fits the dynamic of a laid back environment. The vocabulary used in the text comes across as concise and welcoming. Everyday terms are used in the information provided which is what gives the text it’s cordial feel.

The purpose of our conversation was to decide on a tent to buy for the festival, we discussed this informally in person and collaborated on a decision about which one to purchase. This is the first time either of us have bought a tent in at least 10 years, so we have a vague understanding of what we are looking for but aren’t overly confident. Other events that we need to consider are the weather during the festival, the tent needs to be suitable for all types of weather and it being waterproof is fundamental. We also need to consider the size of the tent not only for ourselves but our luggage too.

As a customer, we interact with the text by reading both the information about the product provided by Argos and briefly acknowledge other customer reviews to get a genuine picture of how it performs. The advertisement is a mix of paragraphs written in whole sentences and bullet pointed lists stating facts relating to the tent. There is a bold headline with the name and catalogue number for the tent and the option to read customer reviews next to 5 golden stars for it’s rated performance. On a more detailed level the conventions of the text relate to specifics about the tent such as it’s size, the materials it’s made from, how it’s waterproof and fire retardant etc. The style of language and visuals used are within a professional context, the text is informative and to the point however some customers may struggle with camping terms described in the product information. The visuals used portray the necessary details a customer would want to see such as the aesthetic of the tent. There no flexible conventions within the text and the rules surrounding it’s format are explicit, as the relationship is between customer and seller the text needs to professional, informative and accurate.

The overall text is formatted in short paragraphs with pictures of the stage throughout, the rules of the text are explicit in their intention to inform the reader of the crime that took place and the purpose of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. The conventions of the text are flexible, there are options of whether to be more descriptive of the crime or to focus more on the positivity that has come from the foundation formed in place of Sophie’s memory. The language used on the page is significant and communicative, explaining what happened to Sophie respectfully. As a user I interacted with the text with sympathy, I found the text emotional to read as I was a teenager when the attack took place and remember it well. I was also and still am a part of the alternative subculture and feel that Sophie’s memory is represented well by Bloodstock. On a more detailed level, the text is descriptive of the crime, the foundation, their sponsorship and the wider alternative community’s involvement. The language is structured in a way that portrays a story of the event that took place, how the foundation came to exist, the artists who involved themselves and how Bloodstock’s participation came to be. The text involves the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, employees of Bloodstock and the artists who have dedicated songs, albums and events to Sophie. The activities described are collaborative with the events contributing to the memory of Sophie and the intention of raising awareness of the prejudice and hate directed at the alternative community. I have donated to and purchased items from the Sophie Lancaster Foundation several times before with the purpose of contributing to a cause that I feel is necessary and important. I have done this through their website or at stalls set up at music events in memory of Sophie. The practices related to the literacy event of the awareness raised through the Bloodstock website are in aid of spreading awareness of hate crime aimed towards people associated with the alternative subculture with the intention of it being recognized as an illegal act. I am happy to be attending an event that supports a foundation that is very close to my heart and supports a movement that I personally feel needs more acknowledgement.
