Quoting the documentary, it's become hard to live on minimum wage. There was no increase of minimum wage at the time of his experience, and it's clear that living expenses have skyrocketed (a dinner costing around six hours of work, which is equivalent to a $90 meal at a low-end diner). 

It's become impossible to live on minimum wage in Ohio, which was one of the results that came from filming the documentary. Something that a lot of families in poverty struggle with, is the lack of a steady stream of income to keep themselves and their children afloat.
