El Espumeru
Asturian Mythology is the set of fantastic traditions and folk legends of the folklore of the Principality of Asturias.

"The Espumeru” is one of my favourite character since my older brother loves Asturian mythology and he always told me, when I was little, many mythological stories and therefore I know a lot about this topic.

"The Espumeru” is a kind of little pixie, who lives in caves on the shores of the sea. It is usually dressed with seawed, shells and others objects found on the beach. His favourite pastime is to glide on the waves or behind the wake left by the boats in the water.
Sometimes when the weather is bad and yhe fog is low on the coast, it sounds a conch to alert whoever is fishing to warn them that a storm is being nade and that is dangerous to approach the reefs.

Despite this, I don’t believe in mythology either from Asturias pr elsewhere in the world.

Yes, I am superstitious and many times I believe in the horoscope but I think tht mythology is just a series of legends created perhaps as a pastime from generation to generation and that were previously known much more than today because now almost nobody talks about them.

El Sumiciu
The Sumiciu is a very little elf, similar to Trasgu, another elf very popular in Asturias. He wears a red suit and has got long ears, it is horrible!!
In Asturias we associate Sumiciu with dissappearances of objects and people. He loves stealing and one of his favourite jokes is to change wine into water. This elf lives with the humans in their houses, but they don't see him because it is almost invisible. Another thing about the Sumiciu is he is more perverse than the Trasgu, and more evil. The only way to get rid of him and his robberies is to pray fast to San Antonio without making mistakes. If you make a mistake during the pray, you will not be able to recover your objects.
In my opinion this mythological creatures don't exist but in Asturias we believe those strange creatures, because it's part of our culture.
I think that people blame the Sumiciu of their objects dissappearances. A typical expression of Asturias is "llevómelo el Sumiciu" it means that "you have lost something and you can't find it"
To sum up, mythology seems to me a very interesting theme and I would like to know about mythology in other regions or countries. But although I like it, I don't believe in it.

El Diañu Burlón
I would like to Talk about "el Diañu Burlón", an asturian magic creature, very typical here in Asturias. I really love how he was represented and what his personality is like. I've always heard stories about him and his adventures and that's why I know quite information about him and I can write some characteristics.
First of all, he is human but at the same time is an animal too. That is, he is a human but his legs are from a goat. He usually lives in the forest hiding from humans and other animals. He is a little bit harmful and evil but he doesn't hurt other human beings, although he makes fun of everything and he plays jokes. He can adopt multiple forms but the more commons are: a baby, a child and some more animals like a pig or a Horse.
If we talk about his actions, we can say he usually scares people during the night. We have some examples:
-When a person rides a horse, he makes him increase and increase his size until the person falls down.
-He scares teenagers Who come from a party
As we can see, he is not incredibly harmful but he likes to make fun of other's suffering.
To end, I would like to say that there are other characteristics atributed to him: keep some treasures safe or guard other creatures. So his fun face id not the only one to stand out.
He is confused also with Satán because of his appareance.
I believe that every mythological creature is not true because I don't think the superpowers atributed to them can be something real. Even though I think that, all these creatures are part of our culture and I'm proud of them and I also try to know a little bit more of them because I find them incredibly interesting.

La Bruxa
In my region there are lots of mythological creatures. One of the most important ones is called 'bruxa'. They are similar to witches. She is and old and awful woman who has magic powers. She uses these magical powers with bad intentions. Moreover, they know all the potions and ointments which they make in large pots. They usually wear black clothes, they cohabit with black cats and they use a broom to fly.
According to the belief, her looks can make who rubs her the wrong way ill. It is known as 'evil eye'.
In the past, people were afraid of her powers and they protected their children with a special pensant called 'puñín'.It was a well-known ritual in Asturias. You can still see many people wearing it and adults too.
These creatures gather the 30th April night on the pagan party of Walpurgis which took place in Fonre das Bruxas de la Veiga de Palo. There, they make a ritual with an ointment.
Some people keep believing mythological creatures exist. In my opinión, tey are only legends.
In my región, it's tradition to frighten children with the existence of these creatures with the purpuse of making them behave well. However, I have never believed in them, it sounds too fantastic for me.
In short, I think they have never existed but I know some people who claim that thy have seen them . Who knows if they really exist!

The Ayalgas are wizars nymphs who hide huge wealth. They are sorcerous fairies or nymphs that live in crystallized caves, have a small body with wings like a butterfly, transparent as water, barely visible by their flashes. They are the guardians of the treasures that in antiquity left plunderers and thieves hidden in the caves of the mountains. On their faces, the have a flower ribbon. They live in Palaxes where there are dragons and which are hidden in the ruins. People can see them as lights and when a man touches them with a wilow branch, they become Ayalgas. The live in ome áreas such us Morcín, Belmonte and Allande. Some people says that they are maidens who loved to leave them to leave them keeping their booties and that they call with their flashes and songs to attract someone who finds the treasure. I think that this belong to part of the Asturian Mythology because is Asturian culture and it represents to asturian people. I hope that this legend will be kept ghrough the ages. Is important to say that this mythologyc person belong to this Mytology joined other persons like Trasgos, Xanas and a lot of more.

TRASGADIELLU
Asturian mythology is the set of fantastic traditions and folk legends of the folklore of the Principality of Asturias.
It is possible that the Asturian folkloric beliefs, like those of all Europe, are linked in some way to the pagan religions of the pre-Christian people.
Elf native of Cangas del Narcea.
Similar and related to the classic Trasgu, but three or four times smaller than the previous one.
It organizes the same messes and entanglements than his cousin, but little by little he was displaced by it, which did not tolerate his competition.
It is usually sheltered by the sad and abandoned places, like the granaries and bread boxes that have been taken by the fed ones, in old and dilapidated houses, and in dilapidated and dilapidated mills.
Although perhaps some of them still remain in these places, the march of the people of the towns where they committed their antics ended new news about their unruly life.
In my opinion I think that this mythological being, even if it is mischievous.
I feel sorry he has to hide from people and in sad and abandoned places. I know that if I see it I will get scared and it is normal for people to see it if they run away, but I would not like to hide ib sad places.
I did not know many mythological beings and this work has helped me to learn about all that exist and not just the typical ones.

IARA

Also known as "mãe d'água" (mother of the waters). According to Brazilian folklorists, Iara was not a siren, originally, but a water snake, also called mboiaçu - mboi, serpent and açu, big - in Tupi. In the 19th century, a process of convergence occurred, between the Amazonian water snake and the European myth of the beautiful half-human, half-fish creature who lures fishermen with her song. The Brazilian romantic poet Gonçalves Dias created the name, from the Tupi language of Brazil: ig - water - and iara - lord. The Afro-Brazilian orixá, Iemanjá, originally the Yoruba mother of all orixás and mother of the waters, is also represented as a beautiful siren. Her other name is Janaína. Iara and Janaína are very popular names for girls in Brazil. If you'd like to give your baby girl a Brazilian name...well, here are two of the most beautiful in the Portuguese language!
