Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts, on January 19, 1809. His parents died when he was 3 years old, he then was separated from his siblings and adopted by a wealthy tobacco merchant by the name of John Allan and his wife Frances Valentine Allan, in Richmond Virginia. Poe got the name Allan from his foster family who gave him the name Edgar Allan Poe.
In 1826 Edgar Allan Poe went to the University of Virginia, he has good grades but unfortunately, he was sent to college without the right amount of money. Poe then turned gambling to gain money so he can pay his debt and other things. At the end of the first term Poe was so poor he had to burn his furniture to keep himself warm. He soon after dropped out of school and went back to Richmond. Two years after publishing his first book Poe attended United States Military Academy at West Point, he only went for 8 months before he was thrown out.
Poe had a fiancee named Elmira Royster but sadly she had become engaged to another man. When Edgar Allan Poe was 27 he married Virginia Clemm, who was not even 14 at the time, But the marriage was a happy one. In 1849 He reconnected with his ex-fiancee Elmira Royster and he found out she was a widow now he decided to get back together with her and they became engaged and planned on getting married after poes trip to Philidelphia and New York.

Poe's childhood was ruined when his parents passed away. during this time he was separated from his siblings.another reason to inspire his depressing stories is when John Allan had passed away. john Allan was Poe's "father"
some theories of what could have caused Poes death could be something like murder, revenge or even suicide. the main one I believe in was a seek of revenge from Rufus Griswold who had wanted revenge due to Poe writing offensive things about him.
Poe had started his writing in Baltimore where he was living in poverty. during this time he had started publishing his short stories inspired by his worst childhood event when John Allan had passed away. once when had gotten a bit more popular he targeted some of the most famous writers. the short story "murders in the rue morgue"', is the first modern detective story genre made.
the Poe toaster is a person that is undefined or unknown. the gothic literature includes very sinister endings such as death, decay, curses and more.
