Springsteen by Eric Church. The speaker of this song would be Eric Church himself. This song that Eric Church wrote about was a memory about a girl and a time, he got only when he listened to the artist Bruce Springsteen. The audience of this song is directed towards a single person which is the girl that Eric Church went to a Bruce Springsteen concert with and had an love affiar with. The purpose for this song is how Church connects with it. He gets a memory of the girl only when he listens to the certain artist. The subject of this song is similar to the purpose. Chruch talks in his song about how a melody sounds like a memory, indicating when he listens to a specific artist in this case its Bruce Springsteen he gets the memory of a night at a concert with a girl. When listening to this song, the tone seems to be almost happy in a way. Its about a good memory and he is not sad about it because the only time he remembers it is when he listens to Bruce Springsteen.

Eric Church acting as the speaker attempts to tell the girl from when they were seventeen that he gets a memory of her when he listens to a specific artist. He uses the appeals of ethos in the lyrics and the appeals of pathos and logos in the video to get this message across. In analyzing the lyrics and videos, it appears that their use of appeals is effective in convincing their intended audience

Lyric Analysis - LOGOS

In Springsteen its almost a little bit hard to tell which Rhetorical Anlysis Eric Church uses due to how the lyrics could mostly fit any one of them. Church does use logos about his memory though. "Somewhere between that settin' sun I'm on fire and born to run." While the sun is starting to set, Church is feeling good about himself as he is getting ready to go pick up the girl. Going to the second example of his memory he says "When you think about me, Do you think about 17?" He knows that when he thinks of her, he thinks about them being 17 but he wonders if she does as well. In addition to Church asking about the memory he goes on saying he remembers "When you hear "Born in the USA" You relive those glory days." He brings in a song from the past that he knows she would definitely remember.

Lyric Analysis - PATHOS

When you look at church's lyrics they play a big role in pathos. The first example of how Church's word choice affects the emotions is the line "Funny how a melody sounds like a memory." He thinks that it is kind of weird or funny how he can listen to a certain song and get a memory that he only gets when listening to that certain song. Going into the next example where he says "I can still hear the sound
Of you sayin' don't go." You can almost picture what is happening as he says this line. The girls face looking sad while her voice is soft saying don't go. The last example is when Church talks about all the things he thinks about when he thinks of her. "When I think about you, I think about 17
I think about my old Jeep I think about the stars in the sky." All the things he did with the girl are all still memorized in his head and they get replayed in his head every time he thinks about her and the concert.

In the lyrics to this song, there are a lot of appeals. These appeals make the message more clear that Church has a good memory when he listens to a artist. The video helps the lyrics become more understanding. Church is effective in not only the lyrics but the video as well to showing a good memory that will never leave his head.
