This is a very slow and melodic song that is reminiscent of the small town in the Kawarthas and gives a very laid back feel.
It talks about the stars in this song, because in Bobcaygeon there is very little light pollution compared to Toronto, so the stars are very visible, which speaks to the lifestyle there compared to the busyness of Toronto

The title of this song makes me think he is making a comment on suburban city life. The song mentions a news article worthy moment where a coyote was found in the city. I think the song speaks to the monotonous life of living in the city. There are references to Northern Lights and to the ocean. These are things and places that can be seen in the wild, places where people do not dominate over the land. I wonder if the author is trying to make a comment about how we are taking over wild places, and not the animals that are meant to live there are seen as invasive and not welcome.

The song is talking about the Montreal Massacre in 1989. It talks about an innocent girl who was perceived to be a girl who liked rich men and fancy clothing etc. But really she's just an innocent girl, nothing how the 'coward' perceives her. It speaks about the land because the song describes they must get bad winters up there and the feeling i get from the song is sadness.

The title looks sad because it is about divorce. The narrator's remorse is gaining everyday, and he found the martial breakdown became the end of world for him. I can feel the sadness and frustrate from the song.

This song is about Niagara Falls. The melody is slow and steady like the flow of the waterfall. A friend calls him up in the middle of the night, and they talk about beautiful things. This song is inspired by the story of Miss Rumphius. In the story, Miss Rumphius wishes to travel the world and return to her house by the sea.

This song is talking about the political issues in Sault Ste. Marie in the late 1900s. The song is upbeat and reminds people of the sunshines and beaches in summer. The title "Born is water" might be named because of the town's location which is around water.
This song brings up the political side of Canada, because Sault Ste. Marie is a english-only city. The lyrics also criticize how people can only speaks english by using irony.

This song is actually a story from Downie's childhood; he grew up in Kingston, Ontario, and remembers hearing about a breakout from Millhaven Institution, in Bath, ON. This shows how personally close to Canada Downie really is and how his experiences growing up here have stayed with him through his life.
