In this Padlet I would like you to pick one quotation which strikes you as creating the most vivid impression of the Monster. Write the quotation and then explain WHAT impression this creates and WHY it is significant in developing a reader's understanding of the character.

"wretch"
This word is mentioned throughout the text and is one of the first exclamations made by Frankenstein about his creation after it wakes. This resonates because it's a hopeless representation of how people view the Creature and assume about him based on his outward appearance alone. The Creature also soon refers to himself this way, showing the impact of his treatment and the uncontrollable prejudice he faces and will always face.

I find the quote "my soul glowed with love and humanity" significant, as it really describes the Creature's character. I think it's a beautiful quote, as it shows his desire to love and be loved. His soul "glowed" with "love" and "humanity", he wasn't a monster overall. We saw through the book that he wanted someone to love, Frankenstein didn't allow this, and destroyed his half made partner for the Creature. This quote demonstrates his love that he had, and wanted to show.

"abhor" (to regard with disgust and hatred)
This word is used at least 7 times throughout the text, especially in the chapter in which Frankenstein first meets the monster. It is significant in the book as it summarises the way that the creature is treated by Frankenstein and others as well as how he regards himself. This word makes an impression for me because it clearly reflects how the creature is immediately hated or feared based on its looks, which is evident in his tragic interaction with the cottagers, as well as his brief encounter with William.

"...by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open..."

This quote describes the suspense and anticipation of the arising of the monster. This quote by Frankenstein shows the gruesome physical attributes of the creature through the description of his "dull yellow eyes". This creatures a frightening and eery atmosphere and helps shape our impression of the monster. This quote is significant because it allows the reader to interpret the creature and it's role in the novel.

'But it is even so; the fallen angel becomes a malignant devil.' (pg 223)
This is a reflection of the creation on himself. It shows that he has had a good heart before he is unfairly condemned by everyone who saw him, and it is this condemnation that caused the heart of an 'angel' to transform into the heart of a 'devil'. This quote summarises the creation's thoughts, feelings and reasons for his deeds. His transformation is forced by the prejudice placed on him by humans, who judge him by his appearance.

Ch.12, pg. 112.
This quote appears to be significant to me because it identifies the monter's appreciation of humanity, and he thinks of human being with all these positive features. However, as he looks at himself, he realizes the different between them. He appears different from the rest, and he is even terrified of himself. This shows that the monster is disappointed with his look because he know that he is unable to fit in this society by his horrifying appearance.

The quote “the fallen angel becomes a malignant devil”, said by the Creature (P233) was one that I think really gave a vivid impression of the monster. It illustrates that even the monster recognises that when first brought to life he was innocent and able to see beauty in nature and other things, however by being exposed to more of the true cruelties of the world, through anger, hatred and violence, he was changed and tainted for the worse. What was once a pure, kind creature became, much like Frankenstein, violent, angry and vengeful.

"wretch"
"I...am an abortion I am a wretch" The Creature (pg 228)
This is a very strong statement. An abortion is a very controversial topic that can sparks very strong emotions due to its implications. If he is an abortion that lives, he is a mistake, a regret, a creature that no one wanted, a rcreature that should be dead. The word wretch also suggests him to be the worst possible creature there could be. The word implies to the reader that he has no positive features and is simply the scum of the earth. Secondly, the quote gives insight on Frankensteins emotional state. The fact that he is openly admitting to this shows much hatred he has for his own existence. In general he word wretch is repeated many times throughout the novel and resonates with me because it is what so many characters identify him as. Wretch also suggests something weak and lowly. Physically he is not weak but is is weak as he is considered lesser and inferior to humans and the
