The pillars of iman refer to the six core beliefs that every Muslim must hold to have true faith in Islam. Among the pillars of iman are belief in Allah, belief in Malaikah and belief in kutub. Belief in Allah indicates our faith in Allah and it is divided into three main doctrines which is Tawhid Al-Rububiyyah which demonstrate the Oneness of Lordship. In the mean time, Tawhid Al-Uluhiyyah reflects the Oneness of worship while Tawhid Al-Asma' wa Sifat indicates the Oneness of Names and Attributes.

Furthermore, the belief in Malaikah shows to us how Allah created the angels to serve and worship Him reflecting the power of Allah in governing the universe. With the creation of malaikah, Allah highlights the systematic governance of the universe. Last but not least, belief in kutub refers to the revelation received by Allah's messenger. It acts as a comprehensive guidance for all mankind which indicates the wisdom of Allah in helping the human being.

Belief in the Prophets, the Hereafter, and Qada’ and Qadar are essential elements of faith. Muslims believe that Allah sent a series of prophets to guide humanity toward righteousness. These prophets delivered Allah’s messages, helping people understand the path to live a life pleasing to Him. The belief in the Hereafter emphasizes that life doesn’t end with death; everyone will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment and held accountable for their actions. Depending on how they lived, they will either be rewarded with eternal paradise or face punishment in hell. Lastly, the belief in Qada’ and Qadar teaches that everything in life, whether good or bad, happens according to Allah’s will and divine plan. While humans have the ability to make choices, Allah ultimately has control over all that occurs, and nothing happens outside of His knowledge and decree. This belief helps believers trust in Allah’s wisdom, even when they face challenges or uncertainty.

Understanding Ihsan, Eschatology, Adab Towards Neighbours and the importance of Bismillah

Ihsan in Islam refers to striving for excellence in worship and daily life, doing everything with sincerity and the awareness that Allah sees us. Eschatology is the study of the end times, where everyone will be judged by Allah, with the righteous rewarded in Jannah and the wrongdoers punished in Jahannam. Adab towards neighbors emphasizes treating those around us with kindness and respect, whether they are Muslim or not, by helping and not causing harm. The phrase "Bismillah" means "In the name of Allah" and is recited before starting any task to seek Allah's blessings and guidance. By saying "Bismillah," we invite Allah’s help, protection, and barakah (blessings) in our actions, ensuring that everything we do is done with good intentions and a connection to Him.

“Acquisition of Ḥikmah” explains that ḥikmah means wisdom, knowledge, and the ability to act rightly. It can be gained through sincere ibādah, which helps build good qualities like humility and sincerity. Scholars say ḥikmah involves fearing Allah, understanding His commands, and combining knowledge with action. In education, the hikmah method helps students think deeply and follow Islamic values.

It also explains the importance of niyyah , which must be pure and for Allah. Amal like prayer and fasting should be done with sincerity and done often. A hadith teaches the basics of Islam, Iman , and Ihsan . Ehsan includes being kind, honest, patient, and humble. These values should be practiced daily to become part of a person’s character. In short, to get ḥikmah, one needs pure intentions, worship, good deeds, and good character.

Ibadah in Islam isn't just about rituals it's full of hikmah that improves a person's life. Solat is like a spiritual shield that protects from bad behavior. According to Hamka, if a person still commits wrong while praying, it means their solat is not done with true understanding. Solat done properly builds discipline, kindness, and generosity, preparing the heart to obey Allah sincerely.

Fasting teaches us patience, control over desires, and deepens our connection with Allah. Even when no one is watching, a fasting person stays obedient because they believe Allah sees everything. Zakat, the giving of wealth, trains the heart to avoid selfishness and greed. It brings peace, cleans the soul, and helps those in need. Hajj, meanwhile, is a full test of body and soul teaching patience, unity, and total submission to Allah’s command.

Preparation of Salah with Khushu’

Khushu’ means praying with full focus, humility, and feeling close to Allah. To achieve this, preparation is key starting with cleanliness (wudu’ or tayammum if water is unavailable), wearing clean clothes that cover aurat, and praying at the right time with sincere intention. Knowing the meaning of what is recited in solat also helps keep the heart present.

There are pillars (rukun) and conditions (syarat) for solat to be accepted. Some are physical like standing and bowing, others are verbal like reciting Al-Fatihah. For special situations like sickness or travel, Islam allows easier ways to pray (sitting, lying, or joining two prayers). Most importantly, we should pray as if it’s our last bringing full focus, sincerity, and submission to Allah in every movement and word.

Solat with khushu’ brings deep virtues like jihad an-nafs fighting our inner desires to stay obedient to Allah. It also grows iffah (modesty), helping us avoid sinful actions in speech, dress, and behavior. When we pray with khushu’, we naturally train our soul to be more disciplined, clean, and pure.

Solat also encourages muhasabah self reflection before, during, and after prayer. It helps us fix our intentions, improve our focus, and seek forgiveness sincerely. Other qualities like ta’ah (obedience) and tawaddu’ (humility) grow stronger too. True humility in solat reminds us how small we are and how great Allah is and this humbleness brings peace, strength, and closeness to Allah.

Zakah is wajib (obligatory) and must be given to specific groups like the poor, orphans, and those in debt. It creates balance in society and reminds us that wealth is a trust from Allah.

Sadaqah is voluntary charity, given out of love for Allah. It grows tawakkul (trust in Allah) because the giver believes Allah will provide more. For the receiver, it brings hope and reminds them that help can come in unexpected ways.
