This study aimed to investigate the impact of simultaneous enteric infections on OPV response. Through a systematic review of 25 trials, mainly focusing on nonpolio enteroviruses (NPEVs), it was found that concurrent NPEV infections significantly reduced the likelihood of per-dose seroconversion for type 1 poliovirus. Similar effects were observed in vaccine virus shedding. Additionally, concurrent diarrhea was found to inhibit overall per-dose seroconversion. The study suggests that simultaneous enteric infections can negatively influence the effectiveness of OPV.
