The next murder was of "Dark Annie" Chapman. But, along with the murders, there were a series of almost 700 letters coming into the Police HQ and Scotland Yard, each one allegedly coming from someone naming themselves "Jack the Ripper." The "From Hell" letter was by far the worst one, arriving along with a box containing half of a kidney! Many were lead to believe he was still lurking in the shadows. Many citizens began to fear for the lives of themselves, their friends and family. A great distrust in the authorities ensued, people believing that they were unprotected and vulnerable.
 People began to suspect that minority groups, such as the Jewish and foreigners, were to blame for the murders leading to Xenophobia and antisemitism, doctors and surgeons were also suspected due to the analysis and deduction of  anatomical knowledge involved in the murders. The murders were very well covered by the news which was read by many, soon reaching everyone. All kinds of people were suspected, and just as many arrested. Furriers, butchers, doctors, surgeons, common folk, upper class gentlemen were targeted. The police even went as far as to declare Jack the Ripper a woman, or a deranged midwife. No date is stated as the definitive end to the hysteria, but I can say that to this day no individual was proven undeniably to be Jack the Ripper.
