Jay-Z is no stranger to good albums. 4:44 is Jay-Z’s most recent release has taken the rap game by storm. Jay-Z mixes the genres of funk, soul, progressive rock, and jazz all into hip-hop to give this album its intended “20th century” vibe. The album features Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Damian Jr. Gong, and many others. This album is the most personal according to Jay-Z. He says,” I just wanted to talk about things I haven’t talked about before.” This album tackles some controversial issues such as racism and his own affairs. Jay-Z makes himself vulnerable in this album which makes this one of his best, yet. With his 13th studio-album release, Jay-Z proves that he can still take over the rap game with his unique style, and logical flow.

“The Story of O.J.”

Possibly the most popular song off the album, “The Story of O.J.” is according to Jay-Z a “...song about us as a culture... a song about how we become even more successful after already succeeding...” This song makes you listen to the dense sound of music while Jay-Z raps a story of sorts. The music video provides a better visual for the song, and is also calling out Disney for being racist with their cartoons in the mid-20th century.

This is the title song for the album. The story goes that Jay-Z woke up at 4:44 to record a song with his producer NoI.D. According to Jay-Z, this is one of his favorite songs he has ever written. Jay-Z gets real personal in the song at certain points like when he discusses how his world changed after his first daughter was born.
