I am working toward receiving an Associate Teacher Certificate and plan to work at a preschool while I finish school. Later, I will get my teaching credentials. I have always been around children and feel that we can learn so much from them. I also enjoy the psychology behind why children do what they do, and acknowledging who and what influenced them. This is the most important part! Great planning ensures that you are becoming a purposeful teacher and that you are following the DAP guidelines. This week, we learned how to plan effective curriculum. To do this, you must reflect, observe, document, interpret, plan, implement, and evaluate. I find this interesting because it is the core of teaching. Celebrating diversity is something that needs to start with children so that they can grow up with an understanding and appreciation of it. I think the key to implementing this into education would be to include families. This way, children will able to learn about other cultures in an authentic way and will be more likely to respect these different cultures. However, in order to support diversity, the educator must do some work themself. My first step will be to graduate from MJC with an Associate Teacher Certificate. This will allow me to get some simple work experience in childcare, with plenty of support. Then, I will need to graduate from a 4-year university with a bachelor's degree. After graduation, I will apply to credential programs to receive a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, where I will also be trained by shadowing other teachers. We have been taught in this course that development does not proceed at the same pace, and it is not the same journey for each child. With the individualized curriculum model, planning is based on the individual child's needs and interests. According to Gardener's Theory of Multiple Intelligences, there are 8 different groups in which we can measure our intelligence. The groups include verbal, mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. This theory supports the idea that intelligence is not one general ability. Incorporating this idea into curriculum planning would be very beneficial for young learners. Communication is very important and communication with families will keep them in the loop about their children's development. After learning about the 7 needs and the resources that are out there, I have learned how common it is that families are unable to meet all of their needs. A lot of families are also unaware of the resources out there to help them.
