Clubs are slow to find success because the student leaders are busy juggling school and their personal life. Some student leaders have done their best to learn along the way but can benefit from targeted training. SMCC is meeting with club officers this semester to provide training on leading their meetings and empowering the officers.

Budgetary concerns are a continuous problem. Students can't get easy access to advisors at my campus because we are short staffed and have not been approved funding to hire more despite enrollment increases. Our student:advisor ratio is 1000:1.

We need to have a more vibrant events that involves different departments such as advising, counseling, student life, athletics to build community and engagement at our campuses.

We need to connect with our K-12 schools. I work with high schools and some of their staff put in their negative biases to students. We need more collaboration and hear their perspectives because that is what they will share among their students. Building sense of belonging starts before they start college.
