In German class we talked, read and listened a lot about fairy tales. How do most fairy tales actually begin and how do they end? Are fairy tales stories that really happened that way? How were fairy tales changed over time and who wrote them down? With great joy, we wrote our own fairy tale. We also read in our reading tandems to practice our reading fluency. We also explored the topic of fall and read fall poems and wrote our own. Furthermore we started to learn about spelling. We had a closer look on words with ck (Brücke, Flocke...) and found a rule that can help us.

In art class we drew a lot to stories. A mouse that wanted to nibble on a pencil was tricked by the pencil, which simply drew a cat to scare the mouse. Another story was about a rooster who was forgotten to color, so we had to help him find his colors. We also experimented with oil pastels by painting a hedgehog in similar shades. This also enabled us to mix colors.

January: On to storytelling traditions in dance! When we return from Winter Break, we'll study the pantomime tradition in ballet. There's nothing like telling a swan that you love her beautiful face. In February, we hope to have a guest artist teach us about an Indian dance tradition. More information coming!

December: We finished our dance about caffenatied sea creatures and shared it with the Kindergarten classes on the last day before break. The students said that it was scary and a little embarrassing, but Diana is really proud of them for doing their best.

September - December: In dance, we're using our skills to create and tell original stories. First, we used our round, angular, and twisted shapes on low, middle and high levels to make tableaus. Then, we made up stories based on what we saw in the tableaus. Now, we're adding movements to explore characters and adjectives. Look out for caffeinated octopuses and happy dolphins coming to a stage near you soon.

We are learning the colors, the alphabet and the numbers until 20. We also created a "Monster" version of ourselves and presented it in class practicing the expressions: "Me llamo ..., Soy de ... , Tengo .... años, Vivo en ..." We just began a unit about "El Día de los Muertos" (The day of the dead) and will learn about this fun mexican tradition.
