After the hero Houyi shot down nine of the ten suns, he was pronounced king by the thankful people. However, he soon became an angry and cruel ruler. He wanted to be immortal and live forever so he found an elixir of life. But his wife, Chang'e, stole it on the fifteenth of August because she did not want the cruel king to live long and hurt more people. She took the magic potion herself to prevent her husband from becoming immortal. To her surprise, she started flying and eventually flew to the moon. Houyi was so angry when he discovered that Chang'e took the elixir, he shot at his wife as she flew toward the moon, though he missed. Chang'e fled to the moon and became the goddess of the moon. Houyi died soon after. People watch the full moon every fifteenth day of eighth month to commemorate Chang'e's action.

     Tazaungdaing Festival

There are twelvemonth in Myanmar and each has a festival.Among them,I would like to share about Tazaungdaing Festival. This celebration is held around the Full Moon of Tazaungmon,a Myanmar national holiday that marks the end of rainy season and is also known as the Tazaungdaing festival of lights. This festival is not only lighting festival but also celebrates religious activities.
Traditionally ,This festival is much more than a public holiday. It's last around 6 or 7days it is also a ballon competition and funfair at the same time. The ballons are beautifully designed and hand-made of traditional mulberry papers and bamboo. They are released day and night during this festival. The ballons for the day time competiton are smaller and usually have the form of pagodas, ducks, dragons or elephants. The bigger ballons decorated with candels are released at the nighttime competition ,sometime even with attched fireworks that explode into the night sky.And then, there are not only market but also a place to play for kids, some carcino and night club for tennagers. At market, you can get Shan traditional accessories and souvenirs.Besides local people also sell barbecue at night and you can also enjoy thr fresh meats. The most wonderful thing is that you can watch ballon from the hot air mountain -there is a place where most of the people make a tant and watch fireballon,in there you can also view the landscape of Taunggyi city.As I'm a girl from Taunggyi,I really love hot air ballon festival and I hope you can also love it and I can tell that if you come once, you want to come again and again.

The Burmese Water Festival (Thingyan), is the celebration of Burma’s New Year. It is traditionally held over a three day period in April in Burma, which was renamed Myanmar in 1989.Given that April is Burma’s hottest month, being splashed with water is more a relief than a burden and any clothes will dry fast under the ruthless sun.The local Burmese community retains their tradition by celebrating it in the last week of June each year. It provides an opportunity to show off Burma’s broadly diverse culture to the rest of the city.
