Gustav Klimt was born on 14 July 1862 in Baumgarten, he was an Austrian painter, one of the most significant artists of the Viennese succession. second of seven brothers. His father was a goldsmith, his mother was a cultured woman skilled in opera music. Despite financial hardship, Gustav was admitted to the Austrian school of arts and crafts. He was very successful and together with his brother and friend they achieved financial stability. The death of his father and brother also left a profound mark on his artistic production. In the same period he met Emilie Flöge, who, despite knowing the relationships he had with other women, remained his companion until his death on 6 February 1918.

The tree of Life

The painting The Tree of Life is a work composed of three panels and created for the decoration of the Stoclet Palace located in Brussels in which the work was reproduced in a mosaic version. The three parts of the work depict The Wait, The Tree of Life, and The Embrace, in that order. It represents the salvation that came to the pagans after the apocalypse, it is the symbol of the golden age and recalls a recurring theme: the cycle of life, as well as the seasons and the uninterrupted cycle that leads from death to rebirth. Death is represented in the black bird of prey on a branch, various flowers stand out. It is also interpreted as tree of knowledge.

The work dates back to 1905-1909.

My name is Saverio. I was born in Naples and live in Qualiano.  I attend the seventh grade at Marco Polo which is located in Calvizzano.  To celebrate World Tree Day on November 21st, we decided to represent Klimt's work of the street tree with caps.  We used plastic and metal caps and two different colored cartons.  Together with the art teacher we looked for the black and white image of the tree on the Lim, then we drew it on the two cartoons.  One group at a time glued the caps onto the tree, first the plastic ones and then the metal ones.  The end result is truly beautiful.
