When she would lose attention and zone out she would completely black out what is going on around her and not realize what is happening until she is called on. It helped her to be able to mindlessly play with fidget toys or take a lap to refocus her mind and help her reconnect.

She struggled with reading. It was really hard for her to watch other students read at a faster and better pace than her. This made her feel like she was not capable of being a good reader. She found that her reading skills were low and she was far behind all the other students in her class. Not only did this have a negative impact on her education, but also her social interactions as well. She found that being unable to read at the fifth grade level made her an outcast and she struggled with making friends. His teacher let him use shaving cream and food coloring to create a place to write the alphabet and erase mistakes easily. He described as someone going into his brain and littering stealing it form him. While I have heard stories and learned about it in school, it was touching to actually listen to a girl who struggled with it so badly in her earlier grades. She shared how she would be called horrible names because people thought she was dumb since she could not read in class. It was emotional for her to share how this made her feel and tore her down everyday. I liked the note that the adult speaker made: that dyslexia is just a different way the brain works. It does not mean that it is wrong or bad. Eventually the girl was diagnosed and received great help from her teacher. She talked about how excited she was when she finished her first book. She said she felt like she was not learning, so that is when she noticed her problem. You can tell that she is much happier now that she had gotten assistance with her reading. She is not ashamed of her story either, which was very inspiring to see. The other lady who spoke talked about how frustrated students can get when they do not understand. I witnessed this while observing at a school. The student was off, not paying attention, and got fussed at often. This student was just struggling and needing help though. This goes to show that there are sometimes underlying issues that teachers have to push through to solve the problem. I also watched Tommy/1st Grade as he described how he struggled with even looking at a Math problem, which seemed to defeat him before he even started it. His attitude about Math changed as he was able to identify to Math in Real World circumstances and make a better connection to the relationship between Math and everyday life.

I learned just how sad and hard to compress attention challenge are. The student discussed how she often goes into her own "la la land" and it makes her feel discouraged because paying attention is so hard for her. She expressed how it causes her not to learn. It can be hard on her as well because she was called on, and was in her " la la land", and did not know what to answer. She was made fun of because of this. Students could get unfocused from a dog parking outside, a person talking, or any other factor. I learned that sometimes students are allowed to draw or doodle while listening to stay focused. He struggled to stay focused on any task given to him. He would have a tv show playing in his head during lectures, and he would make sounds and noises that disrupted class, but he couldn't stop. 
Mr. Hallowell discussed how we should give these students something to fiddle with to help them control that urge, or give them some space to work with. They all will help students to gain knowledge and express knowledge. One of my favorite ones was the Puppet Edu. With this, students could create their own stories/explanations by showing drawings or videos with their voice over. Another app that was one of my favorites was the Schoolkit Math. With this, there are many math aspects that help students practice math. They provide a digial clock where students move the hands to practice telling time. The Lens app was helpful for learners to take a picture of their work or of a reading, and convert it to the immersive reader. Depending on the parish or county I end up teaching in, there will be students with English being their second language, so this app would allow me to keep those students engaged and on track with the topics discussed. Most musical pieces use Italian words to express the styles and articulations of the music, so when teaching younger players how to play these styles, this translator app will help them learn exactly how to play that style.]]> 2021-08-03 19:47:38 UTC https://padlet.com/ipadtraining/yekuexx3h7xqefal/wish/1668136058 Macayla Bass https://padlet.com/ipadtraining/yekuexx3h7xqefal/wish/1668136219 The first app I looked at was SnapType.  It easily scanned my paper.  Not only this, but I was able to tap on the picture wherever I wanted and a text box would appear.  This would be great for students if they have a worksheet that has boxes they need to fill in.  It could be used for graphic organizers as well.  The other app I looked at was translator.  It has the option providing you with written and verbal translations, but the coolest part was how I could take a picture of my paper and could translate it into any language in the world.  This would be great for ELL students if the need to just focus on the content.

1. Office Lens - It showed how to copy documents and send or share them.
2. SnapType - was similar to Office Lens, with the exception of having the ability to annotate, type, and edit information before converting it into a PDF, etc.
3. SchoolKit - gives adjustable clocks and gives interactive assessments to check for understanding of time concepts. Work can be shared to SeeSaw, as well.
Math Mode (Mod Math) - I am not sure why it was labeled "Math Mode;" however, the interactive symbols and ability to choose color and grid backgrounds was a good tool.
