When I first heard this word, I thought post means after, so I thought it was after colonization. Which I guess is true, since it views the effects of colonization. To be more exact, postcolonialism is the study of the impact of colonization. This refers to the ways in which race, ethnicity, culture and human identity are represented in the modern era. During my research of the topic, I learned that postcolonialism may refer to the struggles of indigenous people in the early 21st century. The postcolonialism field addresses western superiority and how it was used to justify the oppression of indigenous people.

Postcolonialism may refer to third world countries and how they were taken over, and the people who lived there were forced to adapt to new cultures. Indigenous people struggled during this time, because they were forced to give up their ways of living and cultures.
