1. The children see a hunched old man carrying junk which is found to be amusing by them while the poet has an emotional connect with the person who was riding the cart and therefore for him it was not something to laugh at as he had personally experienced joy while riding the cart and holding the reins. The contrast is drawn between their emotions of indifference as opposed to joy and delight experienced by the boy.
2.'Silent division' refers to a time of the day when the attention of children is distracted and they seem to hear the clanking sound of the wagon and the junk.
3. The impact of the boy on keeping silent in the short term can be that the boy was embarrassed in accepting his own roots and sharing it with his friends and for long term he will never find his own voice and will be subdued and how he will be impacted by the judgements of the society in showing his true self.

1. For the child it was his great uncle and the beautiful horse with the golden yellow mane but for others it was an old hunched man with an obsolete wagon and the horse. For the boy it was a wonderful junk that was heaped and hauled in the wagon where as for others it was the silly clattering junk.
2. The author says this to refer to the silent division of thoughts in the boy's mind regarding children's perception and behaviour towards his Uncle and the horse who he adored, the wagon and the junk on the wagon which he found wonderful but the children called it silly clattering.
3. Short term impact -(a) avoid embarrassment (b) Fear of mockery (c) fear of non acceptance in the group
Long term - Masking his reality. Not being his own self, a sense of inadequacy, lack of confidence.

1. The young child saw the horse and cart as something fantastical, and his uncle as a heroic figure, while the rest of his classmates saw a hunched, old man and a decrepit horse dragging an obsolete wagon. The child seems to be from an underprivileged background and for him, the horse and wagon hold a lot of value and nostalgia, while his more privileged classmates mocked the shabbiness of the horse, the wagon, and the owner.

2. Meaning 1- Socioeconomic division between the narrator and his classmates.
Meaning 2- The division between how he perceived the horse, the wagon, and his uncle earlier, and how he perceives it now.

3. Short term- embarrassment, shock, identity crisis
Long term- inferiority complex, insecurity, lack of confidence, fear of being exposed and judged, will try to keep up appearances to be accepted by his peers
