Ever since I got my tonsils taken out I have wondered this. Why were they in my body if they just kept getting sick? They seem like a problem to me because they made me sick, they had to be removed, and because they have no important purpose that I know of. After researching why we need them, I found out that they are like our bodies bodyguards, as they are the first line of defense against illness and infection.
Learn more at: http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2011/08/tonsils.html

How are islands formed?

I have wondered how islands are formed for only a little while, as in just now, but I still find it really interesting. The answer is: As volcanoes erupt, they build up layers of lava that may eventually break the water's surface. When the tops of the volcanoes appear above the water, an island is born. Learn more at: http://nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/island/

Why do sharks have their 6th sense?

I have wondered before, why sharks have their sixth sense. I know that they have one extra , but I never knew what is was or what they use it for. It turns out that their sixth sense is being able to sense electricity and vibrations in the water. They use this for tracking fish and other prey!
Learn more at: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/sharks/anatomy/Senses.shtml

Is the Bermuda Triangle magnetic?

I have wondered for quite some time about the Bermuda Triangle. It is so mysterious, and possibly dangerous. I have heard the theory that it has some type of magnet at the bottom that takes ships down, and I was wondering if that was true. After researching it, I found out that the triangle is one of the two places on earth that a magnetic compass points towards actual North. Normally it points toward the magnetic north. The difference between the two is called compass variation.
