I was unaware that there were different approaches to social protection, and that different organizations adopt one or a variation of these approaches in their programs. I realized that my organization appears to apply the TSP approach to social protection.

While I would have loved to learn more about the TSP approach, I now realize that the life cycle approach coupled with an understanding of gender-based constraints would be a great approach for addressing social protection issues impacting vulnerable populations, in particular women and young girls.

The approach shines a light on the fact that people face different types of risks and vulnerabilities depending on the specific life stage in which they are. Hence, effective and resilient social protection systems are made up of programs and initiatives that target each one of these risks in a participar way, always taking into consideration the beneficiaries and the contingencies of their condition. This approach seems to be particularly useful to analyse the social protection systems of my home country, Brazil.

From this module, I have gained knowledge on the The 2030 Agenda, which is centered on People, Peace, Planet, Prosperity and Partnerships. How Social Protection improves the quality of life of individuals and societies. The aim is that no one is left behind. The multi dimensional concept of Sustainable Development and the Five Actions, the USP 2030. The lifecycle risks were quite intriguing for the me, and the solution proffered by agencies such as WORLD BANK, UNRISD, ILO, UNICEF. Before the course, I used to think that social protection is mostly for vulnerable individuals, such as ethnic and racial minorities, refugees, people living in conflict zones, etc. I did not think so much about other people, for example, myself. I never really thought about whether I would need social protection one day. Having learned about life cycle risks (I have also faced some of them in my life so far), I believe I am in a better position to recognise the immense importance of social protection.

I find it helpful to look at social protection through a lifecycle approach. It makes it easier to see how social protection can (and should) be applied in many instances, while tackling several types and levels of vulnerability. Well done!
