Erasmus HAPI Project: The Principle of Cycle by Majda Križman Žužek

"Nature works in cycles that are endlessly self-sustaining and self-regulating. Within these cycles, there are times of growth and abundance, and there are times of decline and decay, of regeneration. During periods of restoration, resources are recycled as food or fuel so that the cycle can begin again. Nature has no waste. Everything has a value. Nothing in ‘thrown away’." (Richard Dunne: The Harmony Project)

P5 students explored the cycles and patterns of the planets within our solar system and learned about the orbits of the planets around the Sun.

Here are their findings:

One of the most well-known space cycles is the orbit of planets around the Sun. Each planet follows a specific path as it travels around the Sun. This journey repeats itself in a continuous cycle.

The rotation of planets on their axes is another important space cycle. It causes day and night cycles on planets like Earth. As a planet spins on its axis, different parts of it are exposed to sunlight, creating alternating periods of light and darkness.

The lunar cycle, or phases of the Moon, result from the changing positions of the Moon relative to the Sun and Earth. These phases include the new moon, crescent moon, quarter moon, gibbous moon, and full moon, and they repeat approximately every 29.5 days.

In the month of March, students from the P1S and P2S classes embarked on an inspiring cycle research journey, transforming into true young scientists. They are delving deeply into the key steps of the cycle research process and actively engaging in practical problem-solving tasks.

Grade 1 students are exploring various materials that can be found in the vicinity of the school. They pose questions about the characteristics, similarities, and differences among them.

Grade 2 students are focusing on getting to know the thermometer and the different situations in which it is used.

Through these approaches, students not only strengthen experiential learning but also encourage scientific curiosity and develop critical problem-solving skills. Their cycle research journeys are full of interesting findings and discoveries!
