The Korean War between North (With support of China and Soviet Union) and South Korea (With support from the United States) started because the North invaded the South to unify the two nations. After the war, the United States kept their presence in the nation Militarily and Developmentally to build them up. They have started to thrive as their own nation but troops from the United States remain.

North Korea has been isolated from the rest of the world because of their totalitarian government (Dictator Kim Jong-un and his father Kim Jong-il before him). Economically, North Korea is extremely underdeveloped. Developmentally, North Korea is considered to be one of the least developed in the world. Even though they are so poorly developed and struggle economically, they possess Nuclear capabilities. Due to their Nuclear capabilities, they are still considered equals to other nations of the world even if they are more developed.

What is North Korea's Plan of Action for the Future?

What has held North Korea back is not just their economy and their development, it is also their leadership. If North Korea wants to grow and join the international system, they need to pick a leader that is good for their country and good for foreign relations. With the type of government they have, they have been isolated from most of the world so it has been hard for them to grow. I would say the only way they could grow would to join the system, fix their government and find better leadership.

The Reason Why Korea Split Up.

Korea was not always split up, once Japan gave up control of the nation thus allowing Korea to be independent again. As a nation, they tried to establish a political government and set up elections. Although, their were two different political ideas on the peninsula so the fear of fixed elections swept across. Due to this, the country split in two. Although, North Korea not wanting to have a continued split, invaded the South to hopefully unify. After the fighting subsided, the two sides remained split and the boarders were established at the 38th parallel.

The United States has been involved in the development of South Korea and with the election of President Trump, Trump has been in conversation with North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un to potentially help develop North Korea. Relations with North Korea in the past have been tense. It is unknown about the level of help America is willing to give but it is something to watch going forward.
