Youth and Allies Against Homelessness (YAAH) within i4Y (Innovations for Youth) is seeking a Graduate Student Researcher with strong quantitative research skills to join a multidisciplinary team for a 50% position for Spring 2025, with the hope that the candidate will continue in Summer and Fall 2025. This GSR position provides the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary lab committed to giving the candidate an opportunity to expand their quantitative skills with the aim of producing research with direct impact on the wellbeing of marginalized populations at the state and national levels.

I’m Jesús Alfaro with the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) at the University of California Berkeley, School of Public Health. This format brings together students, like you, who work in tandem to develop key learning skills, habits, and strategies while tapping into the power of peer accountability and community with fellow learners.

This semester, group academic coaching will be focused on supporting you to “Plan It. Prioritize It. Achieve It: Pushing Towards the Final Stretch.” Through this six week group coaching series, you will be able to focus on building your skills of time management & planning to navigate the second half of the semester and to finish Spring 2025 strong. You will set goals, explore strategies, and reflect on your progress in a supportive community. 

We will be offering two cohorts of Group Academic Coaching during Spring 2025 on Mondays, 2 - 3 pm and Thursdays, 1 - 2 pm between Week of March 31 - Week of May 5. 

The first step to joining this service is by signing up for an Orientation at bit.ly/slp-gac. After the Orientation, you will have an opportunity to decide whether you would like to commit to the six weeks of Group Academic Coaching.

The Berkeley Engineering Design Scholar Program is a 10-week summer research program open to all continuing UC Berkeley undergraduates in the College of Engineering or with relevant experience in design innovation. This program aims to increase diversity in the field of design and provide underrepresented students with research experience they may not have had otherwise. The Scholars actively contribute to the growing design ecosystem at UC Berkeley—participating in seminars, workshops, and special events with members of the design community, including their cohort of fellow undergraduate Design Scholars, graduate students, and faculty. In addition, they learn and practice critical skills of making through the Maker Pass program. Scholars also receive a $6,500 stipend. The per week commitment will fluctuate, but students should prepare to be able to commit at least 20 hours/week towards research.

During the program, each Scholar is matched with a faculty advisor based on their interests, and conducts faculty-guided research in areas such as Engineering Design, Design Methodology, Human Computer Interaction, and Data-driven Design. If there is mutual interest from both the Scholar and faculty advisor, they may have the option of continuing their research beyond the summer.

The program is led by Professor Kosa Goucher-Lambert (Mechanical Engineering), with additional mentorship and project supervision from Professor Hannah Stuart (Mechanical Engineering), and other UC Berkeley faculty.

Silicon Valley Clean Energy is seeking a Clean Energy Operations Intern to support SVCE’s wholesale power procurement, planning, and operations department in developing an intranet site for the department using Monday.com (no coding experience required) and creating digital resources highlighting the most important information the team needs to complete our work. The Energy Institute at Haas (EI) and the Opportunity Lab (O-Lab) are excited to invite interested undergraduates to apply to participate in a full-year program of research training and mentoring on topics related to energy and environmental economics. The Energy and Environmental Economics Mentorship Program, under faculty leadership from Professors Meredith Fowlie and Reed Walker, seeks to grow and diversify the undergraduate community considering research careers in energy and environmental economics.

Selected participants will work closely with top-tier PhD students on an active research project, receive one-on-one mentoring, acquire quantitative skills, and be a part of a research community focused on addressing critical and timely research questions confronting the US and the world. This year's program is offered as a 3-unit research course, ENVECON150, Energy and Environmental Economics Research Mentorship and will meet Wednesdays from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. Qualifications/Essential Duties:
The ideal candidate must be currently enrolled or have graduated from an undergraduate or community college program; including rising High School juniors and seniors. The ideal candidate will have a major in Political Science, Journalism, History, International Relations, Public Policy, Economics, English, Communications, Public Relations, Legal Studies or another similar major; however, all majors are welcome to apply. Many legislators and senior policy staff began their careers by interning in a District office. It is an invaluable way of understanding California’s democratic process, as well as an excellent opportunity to make important contacts while serving the community.

Interns will gain valuable education and work experience by fully participating in agreed-upon work hours. All internship work is voluntary and students will not receive any monetary compensation. Interns are expected to not have any other government or public office internship at the same time.

As a program, we support undergraduate students at Cal to hone the skills, habits, mindsets, and strategies they need to achieve their academic goals and take ownership of their learning. We are continually revising and expanding our services to ensure that we can meet the ever-evolving needs of Cal undergrads, and provide you the support that you need.

In this next chapter, we seek to expand our services for students who identify as neurodivergent. That's why we're convening our first ever SLC Strategic Learning Program Neurodivergent Student Advisory Board!

In honor of Brian’s legacy and the SERQueer community, this scholarship uplifts queer and allied students working at the intersection of 2SLGBTQIA+ identities and environmental justice.

• $2,000 awards for 5 students

• Open to all registered UC Berkeley undergrad & grad students

• Queer identifying and/or allied students passionate about environmentalism (not limited to your field of study)

CRG welcomes proposals from both undergraduate and graduate students to support research or creative projects. Project topics should be consonant with CRG’s mandate to support critical student research on race, gender, and their intersections in a wide variety of social, cultural, and institutional contexts. Proposals that address both race and gender will be prioritized, and proposals that do not address race at all will be de-prioritized. Projects may be oriented toward academic research or may approach race and gender issues from the perspectives of the media, fine arts, and performing arts.

Grants are intended to fund students’ own independent research, rather than contributory research for a broader faculty project.  We encourage students to include a specific research question that they hope to answer in their proposals.  For creative projects, we ask students to include a thesis statement for their project and a critical race and/or gender analysis for why the project is important.  Strong proposals will include a critical race and/or gender analysis.  We recommend sending a draft of your proposal to your faculty mentor with enough time to incorporate their feedback.

John Burton Advocates for Youth (JBAY) is proud to announce the launch of the John Burton Capital Fellowship, a groundbreaking partnership with Sacramento State University’s Center for California Studies. This new Fellowship offers current and former foster youth a unique, hands-on opportunity to shape state policy at the highest levels.

An expansion of Sacramento State’s nationally recognized Capital Fellows Programs, three John Burton Fellows will be placed in full-time, paid positions within California’s Legislative, Executive, or Judicial branches for 10–11 months. In addition to a monthly salary, Fellows earn a Graduate Certificate in Applied Policy and Government, receive medical, dental, and vision benefits, an $875 moving allowance, six graduate units, and student loan deferment. To ensure equitable participation, John Burton Fellows will also receive supplementary support from JBAY to cover financial gaps—such as housing, transportation, and professional attire.

“As a former foster youth myself, I know how transformative it is to be given a seat at the table where policy decisions are made,” said Sarah Pauter, Executive Director of JBAY. “These fellowships open doors for young people to influence the very systems that shaped their lives. It’s about rewriting what’s possible for foster youth across California.”

Applications are open through December 8, 2025. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree by September 1, 2026, a minimum GPA of 2.5, and be at least 20 years old. Anyone who has spent at least one day in foster care is strongly encouraged to apply. To learn more or apply, click here.

This 8-week summer program is designed for undergraduate students and recent graduates to explore the field of public health through hands-on training, interactive workshops, group events, volunteering, and leadership development. The 2026 program will run from June 21 to August 15. There is no GPA requirement, and scholars will receive a $4,000 stipend, housing, and a meal plan.

Youth Advocates collaborate with JBAY throughout the year by participating in meetings, offering feedback on projects, and engaging in opportunities that support statewide and local efforts. Advocates take part in an in-person kick-off meeting in Sacramento and monthly virtual meetings designed to build connections and support their professional growth. The position is open to young adults who have experienced foster care or homelessness at age 13 or later. There are no educational requirements. 

For the upcoming year, JBAY is seeking one advocate based in Los Angeles County and additional advocates located in or near Sacramento. The role is flexible and designed to accommodate school, work, and other commitments. Advocates based in Los Angeles may occasionally travel to Sacramento.

Who: Participants must be 18+ older, fluent in English, identify as LGBTQ+, and had informal or formal involvement with both child welfare and juvenile justice as a child

What: Eligible participants will be interviewed on Zoom; the interviews are expected to last between 90 to 120 minutes. During these interviews, participants and the researcher will develop a visual roadmap of their childhood experiences with child welfare and juvenile justice and other key events and relationships. Participants in this study will also be asked about their childhood experiences with both systems and their experiences as an LGBTQ+ individual. Participants will be compensated $50 for their time.

The planet needs all the help it can get. To win now and build a strong foundation for lasting progress, we need people who know how to organize: to run organizations and campaigns that will inspire the support and action we need to save our environment. Our program starts with intensive classroom training. You learn about issues and campaigns, organizing theory and principles, and skills from recruiting volunteers to staging a media event. Then, you move to a more hands-on experience. You make a difference on important campaigns to transition our country to clean energy, protect wildlife, and more. For example, Lauren Karpinski, an organizer from the Green Corps Class of 2019, brought together a coalition of 40 groups that helped win a landmark solar energy bill in Arkansas.

We’re accepting the top 20 candidates for our 2026-2027 program. Graduates will join our more than 400 alumni who are leading environmental campaigns and organizations across the country.
