materials and waste- the materials that are needed by a business will very much depend on the type of operation it is running and the people working there. for example in ASDAs back store which includes all the products needed to the fill the shelves are sectioned into different sections allowing staff to know where to get everything. The bakery within ASDA will need raw materials such as flour and icing sugar etc to have their baked goods on the shelves.
ASDA's waste could usually be recycled as it wouldn't be taking by the council. also aiming to cut down waste by the packaging, reduce plastic bags etc and reduce the waste of paper and printing.

equipment including ICT- equipment is critical for profit and not for profit organisations alike. many organisations include information technology within their list of essential equipment, as both hardware (physical computer components) and software (computer programs) are becoming essential pieces of kit. in ASDA ICT is needed in the organisation, Asda have also got an online shopping site which has been running for 5 years, this is where people can order there shopping online and get it delivered to there door. From the homepage of he website you can access the on-line shopping site by clicking the 'Groceries to your door' link at the top of the home page. Another example is that When Asda are going to send bulk e-mails it is carried out by using a piece of software called WebMailServer. This is a web based application that allows Asda to do a mail merge into e-mails for example; e-mail addresses from the customer database can be merged with information the company wants to send to it's customers. The program also deals with responses to the mailing by directing e-mails to the appropriate department in the organisation.

Accumulated experience is what people have earned over the years of working. Employers will look at situations they have been in and how they have overcome these situations. Employees with more experience are likely to have a higher rate of pay than new staff or special working conditions. Business must make sure to give employees development skills but also that there is enough staff to carry out the operations of the company. Experienced employees can pass their knowledge and skills across to new employees over time during their job.

ASDA will want to hold onto employees for as long as they can as long as they are making an effort to help the business make profit. They will want employees to be able to work in many areas of the business. ASDA liked to have employees who are experienced because they are able to work more efficiently than other employees. ASDA will also make sure there are enough staff trained in other jobs in the company.

Many businesses will need to invest money in specialist software programs so that a business can function properly. In many cases programs will be specifically made up for a certain business or they can use other software that will need to be paid for with license fees. A good example of this is the Microsoft Word package that many companies will need in order to create letters and other various documents, this package will have to be paid for. This can be bought in a number of ways such as for one system, for a specific number of systems or the online version which can be accessed by all the company and is usually the cheapest option. This software can be pirated very easily but companies doing so are breaking the law by not buying a license.

ASDA will buy software license to ensure they are on the safe side. This will also help them to make sure that their products are not being stole or sold illegally. This will also help with team projects by the use of word which ASDA will more than likely have as it is the most popular choice form many busineses.

planned maintenance and refurbishment- all organisations need regular maintenance and updating. in asda all the machines must be regularly checked making sure they still work effectively. ASDA will cooperate and pay a maintenance company to come and help make sure all the tills, lights and refrigerators are still working properly. these companies are usually a 24 hour service which means if ASDA are having a difficulty then they will come in as soon as possible. if the maintenance was taken place then the machines would break down meaning a reduction in production and may lead to a less profit. ASDA also needs building maintenance such as getting painters in to ensure the store is still looking well from the outside. ASDA also has cleaners to ensure the store is clean and safe inside and outside.
