There are two main ways to harvest salmon,  this is either through purse seining or gill netting. If you are catching a salmon yourself you will need a rod that is able to hold the wait of a full size salmon and either a casting reel or spinning reel. 
Advantages of harvesting salmon is that it is an affordable food source with a high nutritional value of omega-3 fatty acids. Most types of salmon are also better for your health than other types of meat sources. 
Disadvantages of harvesting salmon is that it contributes to the over farming of fish in the UK. Fish that are kept closely in the same proximity to eachother increase the risk of disease being spread between them.
