I expect this class to be filled with debates and discussion, seeing as the upcoming election has caused a lot of debate already and people fee very strongly about it. I also expect to learn a lot more about our government system in this class. My level of interest in the presidential election is very high. If I could vote, I would definitely vote for Hillary Clinton, seeing as she's not a white-supremacist bigot like Donald Trump. Although I don't really support Hillary, I think she's definitely the lesser of two evils and would run our country much better than the other candidate. I worked on Mark Kirk's reelection campaign, so I was surrounded by talk about the election daily.

I think hearing it read out loud makes it a lot more dramatic. It really emphasizes the point they were trying to make to Britain and it just sounds really American. My favorite part of the Declaration is probably the part where they say that we have natural rights that aren't given to us by any man or government, we're just born with them.

I do not support an amendment to the constitution making flag burning illegal. I think burning the flag is symbolic speech and should not be make illegal just because of society's feelings. There are people who are going to say and do things that the public might find extremely offensive but that doesn't mean they should be illegal. That's why we have the first amendment in the first place.

This movie was about Mr. Jefferson Smith, who was elected for Senate after the former Senator died. He was elected so that Jim Taylor could give him orders and Jefferson would just vote however he wanted him to. When Mr. Smith proposed a new bill for a boys camp though, he found out that Mr. Taylor was planning on building a dam on the land that he wanted to use. Mr. Taylor only wanted the land for his own personal profit. Mr. Taylor tried to frame Mr. Smith to get him kicked out of Congress, but Mr. Smith eventually won and exposed the truth about Mr. Taylor and his comrades.

In the move, Mr. Smith probably belonged to the democratic party because he cared more about regular people than big businesses. Today, he would probably still be a democrat. I think after the movie ended, he probably left the Senate and returned to his former job of being the leader of the Boy Rangers because he already said he wasn't fit for Senate. Mr. Smith just didn't seem like the type to like politics and all of the corruption, so he probably just went home because he didn't want to deal with it. After the movie ended, I also think that Mr. Smith and his secretary got together because I mean they were hinting at it throughout the entire movie.

I think Jefferson Smith is most like Mark Kirk in the Senate. Both men are kind of quieter and they both came or returned to the Senate with people not really knowing what to expect. Also, during Rand Paul's 13 hour filibuster, Senator Mark Kirk brought him a container of tea and an apple, the exact same items that Mr. Jefferson Smith pulled out of his pocket during his 23 hour filibuster in the movie.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-03-17/news/ct-met-mark-kirk-comeback-0318-20130318_1_lance-trover-mark-kirk-major-stroke
