         <description><![CDATA[<div>Alphabetic skills refer to the awareness of the sounds that make spoken words, as well as the letters that correspond to those sounds.&nbsp;This includes phonics and phonemic awareness instruction. Phonemic awareness refers to the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate the sounds that make up spoken words. Phonics refers to the relationship between written letters and sounds. Alphabetics encompasses key skills required to become a proficient reader.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Many children with autism have hyperlexia, which is an “intense focus or preoccupation with numbers or letters, the early and spontaneous ability to read words, and a significant gap between word-level decoding and comprehension”. Despite demonstrating adequate fluency skills, these children are often not understanding what they are reading.</li><li>Children with autism also may have limited exposure to oral language, and therefore limited vocabulary, as a result of limited socialization and/or restricted and repetitive interests.</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
