Reflections

Administrative supervision is more related to organizational productivity/issues/practices, while clinical supervision is centered on helping providers give high-quality care and grow their expertise. I was shocked at the statistic that only 29% of early career professionals did receive clinical supervision. That's a scary number to me, as I always viewed it as a given that I would continue receiving supervision and guidance as I transition from a grad student to a professional. I appreciated the review of Gibbs reflective practice model and especially the parallel between what the person who is sharing does and what the audience/peers do to help and support that person. Cultural humility is a new term for me, but the fundamental ideas were familiar - critical self-reflection, challenging power imbalances, and institutional accountability all seem crucial to me in our work.

Takeaways:
I will need to ask about and likely advocate for high quality clinical supervision for myself in my career as a school psych.
Reflection supervision can be done in a group format and that is an appealing option from a resource/time/personnel perspective. I've only ever done it one-on-one so I'm eager to partake in the group format this year.
