Nicolaus Copernicus formed a theory that the sun was in the center of the solar system. This meant the earth orbited around the sun. This theory was known as the "Heliocentric Theory." This theory went against the Roman Catholic church teachings. Nicolaus knew his theory went against what the Roman Catholic church taught, so his family released his theory after he died.

Johannes Kepler

Johannes Kepler discovered that the planets travel in stretch-out circles called eclipses.

He ends up making three laws about planetary motion. His first law, says that planets orbits the sun in elliptical paths.

his second law, says that there is a invisible line connecting a planet to the sun, this means a planet moves faster when its close to the sun and it moves slower when its farther. His third law, says that a square of a planet's orbital period is proportional to the size of its orbit.

Galileo Galilei used a telescope to support Copernicus's theory that the earth was a planet orbiting the sun. He discovered that there are dark spots on the sun, that Jupiter has four moons, and that Venus goes through phases. He found out that there are mountains on the moon. His discoveries were not supported by the Roman Catholic church. He wrote his findings in a book called "Starry Messenger."
