Ofrendas are tables filled with pictures, food, religious items, drinks, dishes, etc. The reason they have drinks on the alter is to quench the thirst of the dead for their long trip back home.

They also have paint there faces like a calacas because they feel, "calacas is generally depicted as joyous". A calacas is basically a skull or like a bone figure.

Misconseptions about the Day of The Dead.

It is not a Mexican version of Halloween and Mexicans Have celebrated this holiday sense 1800 B.C.
The Day of the Dead is not supposed to be scary.
The day of the Dead is not a cult but is a ritual.
It doesn't honor death but dead relatives.

THE CLOTHING THEY WEAR...

On Dia De Los muertos they eat different type of food they eat Pan de muerto which is the most common food for The Day of the Dead. They eat champurrado, moles, etc.

Dia De Los Muertos is an holiday for the Mexican culture where they can celebrate there ancestors and or relatives that have passed away. This day is not supposed to be scary but joyful. The day your deceased relatives come to visit.
