Free will affects every aspect of our lives. Knowing if we have free will changes the way that we make decisions, run society, and view life overall. If we have no free will then it would completely fracture the way we govern and uphold the law.

The topic on free will is important because, it determines why we act the way we act. Free will isn't given to us as we are born with it, we the people are responsible for our own actions and if one can't then that person should not be allowed to be free.

In society, the concept of free will touches aspects of life that include: "morality, law, politics, religion, public policy, intimate relations, feelings of guilt, and personal accomplishment" (Harris 1). People operate on the idea that they are in charge of themselves and their own destinies. If the concept of free will is debunked, according to Harris, a "culture war" (Harris 1) will ensue.

Free will is important because whether it exists or not, it affects our daily lives. For example, if free will did not exist, it would change the justice system as we know it. People convicted of crimes could be considered innocent because they had no control over their actions. Their actions were just a result of their genetics and upbringing/experiences.
