Philosophy and Forensic Psychiatry: A Collaborative Course

This graduate-level seminar is a unique collaboration between the Rice University Department of Philosophy/Medical Humanities and the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program at UTHealth Houston’s McGovern Medical School. Co-taught by Dr. Samuel Reis-Dennis, a specialist in bioethics and moral philosophy, the course explores ethical, philosophical, and clinical dimensions of forensic psychiatry.

From landmark cases to mock trials and case conferences, this statewide series brings together forensic psychiatry fellows and faculty from across Texas including the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock and El Paso, the University of Texas Medical Branch, the University of Texas at Tyler, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Texas at San Antonio for a dynamic, cross-institutional learning experience that connects clinical practice, legal insight, and ethical reflection.
