At my parent conferences I explain the program to the parents and the importance of having their child read TO THEM every night. I ask parents to have students read the book at least 3 different times and for parents to ask the questions about the book. I also give examples of questions they can use to help their child with WRITING responses on each book. When the students bring a note saying they are ready to test, then they take the test. NO NOTE, NO TEST. I write the score in the planner for the parents. I have had a lot of success using this method.
