It was important for him to think about his education because if he wasn't going to enjoy it and excel in it then there wasn't any point in him doing it. Him not fitting into the English environment but going through that major also allowed him to relate to his people he was working with.

Paul had a very good sense of self. Because of this, Paul knew what his passion was and he pursued that passion vigorously. Paul had a great desire for knowledge and he saw a correlation between two seemingly polarized subjects. Paul also took what others said with a grain of salt and respected advice, but followed his own heart.

Majoring and receiving his doctorate in English provided him the foundation to be proficient in writing, reading, thinking, and communicating. He noticed he didn't fit in the English world, but always had a connection to the medical world and the interest of the meaning of life. He found that he could learn more about the meaning of life on top of English through studying in the medical field.

Paul's career choice was directly influenced by the experiences that he had in his college classes. His experience as an english major probably affected his final decision to become a neurosurgeon. We believe that literature sparked his interest in neuroscience.

So we as a group came top the conclusion that, he took the path less traveled, he designed his life in a way that made him happy, yet challenged ,he studied "outside the box" in way that seems unorthodox but really worked for him in the end. His English degree helped him write a book about his life experiences as a neurosurgeon. Not many people can say that their degrees have worked for them in such a wonderful inspiring way.

Paul enjoyed his education, however he felt out of place in the English department because he loved science whereas the people in the English department didn't understand it as well as he. He said that he didn't feel like he fit with them. This made him focus on the Medical Field instead of English.
