He had two very good friends, and they decided that they were all going to go to the batting cages. And at these batting cages, he got hit by the pitching machine in the head, this may not seem important, but it is. So after he got hit he had to go to his job, the Zoo. So as he was cleaning he was disorientated (from being hit), and fell in to the hippo tank, and started hearing music, this is how he got into the other world.

I also liked the plot and the suspense, for many reasons I recommend this book but I don't want to spoil this book to much. When his brother died, he knew where he was and thought he could saved him so he didn't want to play. But when the “Jack of softball” a girl named Cassy told him that she understood where he was coming from and became his friend. This really struck a string with Jack because his old best friend didn’t understand him and turned against him. Jack and Cassy also became friends with a overweight kid named Teddy and helped him get into shape, and when Jack went back to his old team after finding a gift for him from his dead brother, he brought Teddy (who happened to be a great catcher) to the team as well. After he went back to the team, his old best friend Gus went back to normal and became friends with Cassy and Teddy.
