How were Blacks treated during the time of racial segregation?
Blacks, who were referred to as "Negroes" at that time, were treated completely differently from whites, completely stripping them from basic human rights and functions.
Blacks were subjected to abuse from hate groups, like the Confederates or the Klu Klux Klan.
An example of which is when sticks of dynamite were being thrown at blacks. This led to black families fortifying their homes to protect themselves from such attacks.
Another common example is when signs were put up at public restrooms and restaurants, to separate whites from blacks.

Congressman John Lewis, who grew up in rural Alabama, said he tasted the bitter fruits of racism;

"I didn't like it.
