I think the very first assignment, U1A1 best represents the usage of rhetorical awareness. We looked at a short story and essentially broke it down into pieces. In the first paragraph of this assignment, I discussed the background of the story and all of the key points of the story. I discussed the purpose of the story by explaining the way these people lived and all of the challenges they faced when crossing the border.  This course goal will enhance my writing skills as it can simply be prompt when analysing something.

This assignment was really difficult for me. For starters, we had to create either a story map or a fotonovela. That is my definition of composing. We used critical thinking to come up with the story. We had to research a place we wanted to go visit, go visit the place, try and eavesdrop or take notes on a conversation, etc. We had to then do some secondary research on the place we visited. I think this will be one of the only times I will have to make a fotonovela, which is why I think the assignment was more difficult. I chose the workshop for U2A4 for the revision goal. In this assignment, we were to revise not only our own work but as well as my peers who posted to the discussion. We all engaged with each other by reading over each other’s work and giving feedback where it was needed. This goal will be so useful throughout my college career as well as even in my work career. You are always revising whether it’s something for school, work, an email, etc. This is always one of my favorite assignments because most of the time you are getting feedback on your work to enhance the grade. I also like hearing what people suggest to make my work better.

In this assignment I not only reflected but I also did some revision, this goal was killing 2 birds with one stone. I remembered being on edge going into this assignment as I had Professor Martinez last semester and we did these forms all the time. On the very last revision from last semester no one revised my work. I felt this was unfair because not everyone was getting their work revised from someone in class. It was then their job to go find someone to revise our work. This assignment I feel had most of the goals combined into this assignment. This assignment was a small essay. In essays, you are supposed to make sure all of your grammar and punctuations are correct, conventions. My work with conventions will help me not only in this course or college alone, it will help me until the end. You are always using conventions in your everyday lives. I feel like this course really helped me when referring to conventions.

I feel a good assignment represents people feeling like they do not belong. After diving deeper into all of the assignments we have completed this semester, I realized all of these people lived where the I-10 is now. The government gives them nothing in return. These people lost their homes and had nothing left. I think this goal really helped me understand the realities of different cultures. This course brought a lot of knowledge to me as I wouldn’t typically learn about this in an English class.

One term I became familiar with was “Papelitos Guardados”, which are secretly guarded pieces of paper. We had a prompt given to us each Thursday of every week. It was encouraged to write down in a notebook your responses to the prompts given, but it was allowed if you decided to use your computer. Some of the prompts hit harder than others, I really tried to be open within myself when writing because I knew no one would be viewing them. I had a couple of favorite prompts where I felt I put a lot of effort into my work. First, the prompt where we were instructed to “What does the land have to teach you”, I responded in a sense of not knowing much about the borderlands and coming to the class taught me lots.  My response was,  Papelitos Guardados #10. The second prompt I enjoyed writing about was explaining my peer edit workshop. My responses consisted of anger as I did not have as much feedback as I would’ve expected. My response was Papelitos Guardados #8. Another prompt I enjoy writing about was explaining my status in the semester. It is always cool to see how I was doing versus now. My response was Papelitos Guardados #9. Lastly, I wrote about my home in Scottsdale. I always enjoy writing about it because I am homesick for an excessive amount of time. My response was Papelitos Guardados #1. 
Overall, this semester was easy. I had lots of homework but it was manageable. I had some struggles in this class with a couple of assignments. The one I struggled with the most was the fotonovela. This assignment sounded easy until you were making your own. I had a story in mind, which I used. However, when trying to come up with details and the correct wording for it all, it took a little bit of work. Another challenge I experienced was procrastination, especially as the semester was coming to an end. It was to the point where going to class was becoming a drag. But I feel as the year winds down, every year I start feeling this way. As I approach the last week of school, I have made a goal for myself to stay on top of all of my assignments. 
The semester goals in this class were all met. I set a goal for myself to turn in every assignment, which I did. I also set a goal to receive a higher grade in this class than I did last semester, which was a B. I believe I will meet that goal as long as I finish this semester strong.
