-The 3rd grades should show an understanding of those in charge at home, school, and locally.
-Focus on the local authority of the fire department
What to know before hand:
1. Know the local current positions within the fire department.
2. Know the roles of those in these positions.
3. Know how old/ how long they are in acting roles as well as the criteria needed to be in these positions.

What are positions within Santa Fe Fire?
- There is a Chief who is head of the department, Captain, Firefighter
How are these people put into their positions?
- These positions are voted on once those have met the necessary schooling that is required by each department.
What are the roles?
- Chief manages the day to day department, Captains are over certain areas within in the department Ex: Captain of Fire, Captain of EMS., Then the Basic Firefighter who is a member within the local department.
What do they do for the community?
- Maintain the safety of the community by fighting fires, responding to medical calls, wrecks, implementing burn bans, and fire education for local schools and community.

BOOKS:
1. TIME For Kids Informational Text: A Day in the Life of a Firefighter.
I can use this book to breakdown some of the many jobs firefighters do.
2. Molly, by Golly!: The Legend of Molly Williams, America's First Female Firefighter (Personal favorite showing that anyone can be a firefighter.)
I can use this book as an enrichment to show that anyone is capable of being a firefighter.
WEBSITE:
Texas Fire Service Organization. This is a website that covers a large amount of information about the fire departments and schooling that take place in the state of Texas. As well as a directory to multiple different departments.

GUEST SPEAKER:
Fire Chief Tommy Anderson from Santa Fe Fire and Rescue. Rationale being that this is the chief of the local department matching the TEKS of understanding local authority.
FIELD TRIP:
Santa Fe Fire and Rescue Station 1. This shows where the firefighters respond from for calls as well as where EMS works, matching the TEKS showing children where they are located in the community and giving a visual understanding of the job they do.
