The name of our disability is Spina Bifida. This disability is a spinal hernia. The spine is split and spinal fluids leak out with some nerves. Spina Bifida is contracted by birth defects. This disability is curable by only surgery. This disability is rare (less than 200,00 cases a year). This affects all ages but mostly comes from birth defects. Spina Bifida Occulta is the least severe type of Spina Bifida. This causes a small gap in the spine but there is no sac on their back. Meningocele Spina Bifida is the mild type of Spina Bifida. It is just spinal fluids in a sac on the spine. Myelomeningocele spina bifida is the worst kind of Spina Bifida. It has spinal nerves and spinal fluids in a bigger sac.

For a person with Spina Bifida, they would have to have a wheelchair lift if the hernia is near their head.(if they rode the bus they would ride the special needs bus with the wheelchair lift included) If the hernia is near the legs, they just need help with their crutches.A hernia is a bulging of an organ or tissue through an abnormal opening. They would get through the building with either a wheelchair or crutches. They eat with their hands/utensils.(Usually if it is the most mild type they can eat with more control) They can't think very well and might end up is a class like IEP (Individualized Education Plan). They should participate in regular everyday activities like wheeling on the sidewalk or running with a leg brace for at least 60 minutes. Surgery is an option but some medications can stop the process.

Most people with Spina Bifida use crutches, braces, or walkers. The crutches wrap around your arm and wrist and extend by a pole from the wrist to the ground. The braces used for Spina BIfida wrap around the calf, completely covering it,and cover the remainder of the leg/foot.The walkers used for Spina Bifida have handle bars that come around from the back of your waist and have wheels on the bottom that provide for easier transportation. They also have a large semi-circle shaped back to lean on.All three of these inventions are said to beneficial to students because they help them walk and get around his/her school easier. The walker seems very unuseful when it comes to getting around the school building. Many have come to the conclusion that walkers are not the best when it comes to safety.Kidshealth.org writes, " In fact, falling down stairs is one of the most common injuries from walkers." This would be a problem in a school building because many school bulidings have stairs somewhere in the building and this could pose as a safety hazard. Abcnews.go.com writes "Children are still being injured in them. There should be a ban on the sale and manufacture of walkers." This was what a pediatrician told an Abc news reporter. They went on to say that children were sustaining even more injuries when they were using walkers. This was because just a slight roll can send you flying!

Giana and Dash present to you.........the Chackeeamp! This is just like a regular school chair, But the opposite. The chair is just a chair that you would find in a classroom. But,it has wheels on the bottom with a remote control on the handles (there's handles) to control the speed and when you stop/go.There is a backpack that attaches to the back so you can store your books with you throughout the day. To get down stairs there is a button you press so that a ramp extends from the bottom. Once you roll down it,it goes back in the chair. To put it back in the chair, press the button a second time. It cones in several different versions including rainbow, pink glitter, pink, purple, blue, green, red, orange and yellow. (the one in the diagram is rainbow) It's only $150.25 ! Get one for your child with Spina Bifida today!
