The little kids got pebbles, though they didn't really know what was going on. They all gathered around Tessie, their stones at the ready. "on the count of three, everyone. one...two..." just as he was about to call out three Tessie raised her arms up, and half the crowd was blown away onto the ground. then smoke shot up out of the ground and in the midst of all the confusion, she ran to hide.

“All right, folks,” Mr. Summers said, “let’s finish quickly.” Tessie stared at the ground. The other villagers stepped away silently. Tessie walked up to the box and picked it up with both hands. Mr. Summers gave her the slip of paper with a black dot on it. Mrs. Hutchinson started to weep. Mr. Graves gave poor Tessie another stack of paper. She put it in the box and mixed everything up. She then dropped in the paper with the black dot on it. “Come up and draw from the lottery box again”, said Tessie, “Whoever gets the paper with the black dot walk to the pile of rocks the boys have made.” Mr. Summers called out the names again. Once all the names had been called, no one had walked to the side. “Who has it?!” yelled Old Man Warner. Mr. Summers started to walk to the side towards the pile of rocks. The villagers started to whisper in hushed tones. They all knew that it would probably be Mr. Summers for, his family was cursed. It seemed that every time the lottery took place, someone from the Summers family is chosen. Mr. Summers sat down near the pile of rocks. The rest of the village started to walk slowly towards the person who was chosen. Tessie wept as she said “You are now banished to the outside. All you have to protect yourself is this pile of rocks.” The villagers said their goodbyes to Mr. Summers. Tessie and Mr. Graves gave Mr. Summers a bag with the rocks in it. The gates opened and poor Mr. Summers stepped out into the vast expanse of trees and dangerous animals. As the man stepped into the forest, all the village heard was a low growl and a scream.

Leave Tessie alone. Have me.” Everyone turned around to see who the sound came from. “Dad? What are you doing?” Tessie’s voice was merely a peep. “Dad?” Mr. Summers called. “Who’s Your Father Tessie!?”
Old Man Warner emerged from the crowd. “I am. And I say that you leave her. I have been in this lottery for 77 years. If anyone deserves to get hit, it’s me. I have lived my life.” Mr. Summers stared at Tessie, then back at Old Man Warner, then back at Tessie.
“What are you lookin’ at, Summers? Didn’t you ever learn not to stare? Your mama must’ve taught you better than that.” Old Man Warner shook his head with a frown.
Mr. Hutchinson walked up to the center of the crowd, and put his hand on Tessie’s.
“Come on Tessie, don’t let Old Man Warner take the hit.” Mr. Hutchinson spoke firmly. “He can’t be your father. No one was throwing stones at her! She had never actually participated in the town’s lottery before because she had recently married in to the Hutchinson family. She did not know what to expect. “This is our symbol of unity to show our faith to our new leader.” Old Man Warner said “Tessie Hutchinson, what an honor, our new leader!” Tessie let out a huge sigh of relief! “Oh, I am so pleased! In my old town we used the stones to kill the lottery winners each year.” Tessie explained “Oh heavens no!” said Mr. Summers “That’s awful.” Ms. Dunbar replied “Our town has always done the lottery this way. Its tradition”. “That’s how we decide our new village leader each year.” Old man warner said. “Well I’m certainly glad y’all aint gonna kill me!” Since the lottery was over everyone returned home. The next day Tessie was to start her job as the village leader. Tessie was very glad to be home and safe with her family. She had won the lottery!

Okay,” let’s get this over with” said Mr. Summers. “Wait, are you actually going to kill me”, said Tessie with her eyes filled with tears. Little Dave walked up beside her and said, “mommy it’s okay, you’re not going to die, we are just playing catch”. Everyone looked around at each other in sadness. Old man warner blurted out in the crowd, “so are we just going to sit or are we going to through some rocks!’’. Everyone stopped and looked at him. Then Tessie said to little Dave,” How would you like to play catch with the rocks?”. Little Dave blurted out “I love playing catch”. Little Dave stood there waiting. Tessie then ran away so that no one would catch her. When all the people stopped talking and looked back to where Tessie was supposed to be standing they saw poor little Dave standing there waiting to play “catch”. They started to get mad that Tessie would put her own sons life on the line because she didn’t want to die. Later that evening the whole entire city came together to put together a hunt for Tessie. Old man warner said,” I’ll check Tessie’s house to see if she’s in there”. “I will check my toys”, said little Dave, thinking they were playing hide in seek. Other towns people said they would check the whole town. We will all split up to night to find that Tessie, and we will kill her the ritual way. “This is going to be good”, Said one of the school kids. Old man warner said” All the kids have to stay inside, it is too dangerous to be out at night”, All the kids whined and complained. Later that night they all went out to find Tessie. Old man Warner said,” She couldn’t have gone to far”. They all kept searching for hours until one person said,” I FOUND HER” Really loudly. All the towns people rushed over to grab her and bring crying Tessie to a lake. First they soak her body with water, Then they tie her to a pole, after that they say holy words, and then stone her to death. After they were done and had killed her, they all went to bed, and rested all day the next day. Everyone was chill and just hanging out when they heard a big boom, It came from Old Man Warner’s house. They all rushed over to see what had happened and they saw old man warner dead with a shot to his head, and little Dave had shot him. They all were shocked and all walked away in freight. That is when they all decided to leave the city and hide from the government and leave Little Dave. It was a few years later, The people of that city had been hiding and running for years now. Little Dave came as a grown man, they asked how he was still alive. They found out he had been feasting on the body of old man Warner and other animals. They were disgusted and kicked him out. But what they didn’t know was that he was bringing them money, so they forever and always hide from every person they saw.

"All right folks," Mr. Summers said "Lets finish quickly." Tessie stood there not so happy as everyone ought to have thought she'd be. Mrs. Hutchinson the winner of the beauty of a house on top of the hill. Mr. Summers had lived in that house for the past two years since he won the lottery. "I feel real bad for stealing Mr. Summers house" said Mrs. Hutchinson. "Oh, hush Tessie you won this fair and square and don't you forget that now" exclaimed Mrs. Dunbar. Mr. Summers green with envy as everyone crowded around The Hutchinson's. Tessie exclaimed "Alright everybody let's head up to the house to enjoy some noon dinner." Mr. Summers clomped along behind the crowd. The meal already set on the long table. Mrs. Hutchinson raised her glass and made a toast “Hahemm I would like make a toast to another year of a great harvest.” Lil Davey said “amen” and everyone laughed. Mrs. Hutchinson went around to everyone she reached Mr. Summers who was at the end of the table and asked “you feeling alright you’ve barely touched your food.” Mr. Summers grit his teeth and exclaimed “I’m Fine.” He got so angry that some people say a piece of him died that day or that he lost his sanity. Because, after everyone had left and the Hutchinson’s were fast asleep he broke into to their lovely home on the hill. He first went into Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson’s room and raised his knife over Mr. Hutchinson’s head with a sick crocked look on his face and plunged it into him. There was a god awful shriek that came out of Mr. Hutchinson that woke up everyone in the house. Tessie jumped out of the bed a cried “what are you doing” Mr. Summers replied ever so sinfully “something I should have done when you picked that slip out of the box”. Mrs. Summers ran out of the room and grabbed her kids and was gone. Tears streamed down her face She cried “it’s not fair… it’s not fair.” It has been some time since the incident. What happened to Tessie and her babies well, some people says she lives a happier life with her children out on a little farm in the country side. Oh Mr. Summers well he still sits inside that house that used to be beautiful but now is dilapidated and sits on the front steps screeching his knife across the marble floors going back and forth and back and forth. Like we used to say back in the days of the lottery “Lottery in June Corn be Heavy soon.”

"All right, folks." Mr. Summers said. "Let's finish quickly." Everyone quickly gathered around Tessie. Tessie yelling in excitement “I’m going to be rich, I’m not going to have to worry about anything anymore.” Everyone had HUGE piles of cash. Tessie jumping up and down, excited thinking that she is about to get all that money. Everyone threw the billions of dollars that she thought she had won on to her. It was so much money, the pile was almost as big as Mount Everest! Tessie was at the bottom of the pile with all that money on her. They all left and came back an hour later. When they all came back, they all gathered around they humongous pile of money bills. They all yelled “TESSSIIIIIEEE” they didn’t get a respond back. They brought down the pile of cash until they could see her. They finally found her, and there she was, lying dead at the bottom of the pile of all the cash that she thought she had won. They had all fooled her and made her think that she was going to win all the money, but they really were going to suffocate her with all the billions of dollars.
