         <description><![CDATA[<div>During those six years of war, latino people began to volunteer to enlist into war. Latinos, specifically Mexican-Americans, made up 18.6% of soldiers, excluding women from the percentage. Latino soldiers were sent to the Philippines because they could speak spanish. At the time, Mexican-Americans were facing tons of discrimination even if they were soldiers fighting for the country. Many Mexican-Americans were not given a proper funeral because of racism. Even after death, Mexican-Americans were treated poorly  </div>]]></description>
