<title>Group 1: Social and Emotional Learning for Facilitating Meetings and Professional Learning Engagements:1. Welcoming inclusion activities: We very often see meetings start when the meeting leader asks everyone how they are feeling. And then asking the group to share a success they recently had. 2. Engaging Strategies: Stephanie shared: Think Pair Share used less but used more in methodology class. 3. Optimistic Closure: We don&#39;t see this technique used much. Mia shared: Most PDs that I attend do use welcoming inclusion activities. I do think it’s nice to get everyone on the same page and pull everyone together. I dislike when it feels disconnected, redundant, or like it was included as an empty gesture or checkbox—just doing it to say they did it. In my own sessions, I’ve had pretty good results using some engaging strategies—e.g. think time, brain break, opportunities for interaction. I didn’t do as well with optimistic closures, though—mostly because my PDs were one-off sessions unrelated to my primary/actual role within my building, so I didn’t have an opportunity to follow up and/or participants knew that any reflections or statements of intention were unnecessary (unless they were truly personally interested in the topic, of course).</title>
