Harriet Tubman, per. 2 by Judith Macias

During the 48 years between the end of the Civil War and her death in 1913, much of Harriet Tubman's time was spent taking care of poor people in her home. Harriet often had 6-8 people in her care. "The aged, ...the babe deserted, the epileptic, the blind, the paralyzed, ...all found shelter and welcome." Emma Telford Memoir, 1911.

1. After the Civil War Harriet Tubman bought a structure next to her home to help the needy. Her focus on life after the Civil War was to help people who couldn't help themselves, and had no family to help them.

2. Harriet cared for her extended family, poor blacks, and anyone else who needed help for 40 years.

3. Harriet has had many great achievements and some of those achievements are being a spy in the Civil War, a nurse, and a caregiver. In my opinion, her greatest achievement is her work in saving others from slavery. She contributed so much to society for equality, and helped many slaves escape to freedom, when they could not do it themselves. She will be remembered as a Civil Rights Activist who fought for equality for all people, especially the enslaved.

1) After the Civil War, Harriet Tubman's focus in life was caring for people who had special needs or were abandoned by making a private home for them known as the Harriet Tubman home.
2) Harriet cared for people like her extended family, people with special needs, deserted and poor blacks in that area. She did this for 40 years.
3) In terms of value to society and to her country, Tubman's caregiver work in Auburn compare with her other achievements as more known though she would have preferred to have her other works like being a spy. Nobody had really known about her work as a spy and she probably would have wanted to be known for that too. Her greatest achievement in my opinion was being a caregiver because she took care of people who needed a family but also freeing slaves because she saved them from torture and traveled almost 600 miles.
