Bruce Mau is a designer, educator and writer. He founded Bruce Mau Design in Toronto in 1985. Since that time, BMD has grown and gained international recognition for its wide range of projects with some of the world’s biggest architects and institutions, artists and entrepreneurs, academics and businesses. He designed and co authored the book S,M,L,XL. He also was an architect the very popular met life stadium.

A major contribution to the design world from Mau was his book S,M,L,XL. This is now referred to as the design bible. Him and his co author Rem Koolhaas reimagined almost everything about design. In addition, generally Mau changed the design world completely. he went fro being a graphic designer to an author, architect, illustrator, furniture maker, and so much more. He expanded his ability to be able to do any job in the creative field.

Mau was put in charge to rebrand the country guatemala. Mau proposed for it to become Guate Amala, which means love and peace instead of Guatemala which means bad.

Mau was an activist and man of change. He wanted change in the design world and he wanted to merge modern design with sustainability. He was a man of big ideas and was alway thinking of ways to change design as we know it.

William Morris was an activist artist in design history. His message was that design was for the people and should useful and beautiful. This was also the main topic of discussion for the arts and crafts era in design history.

Bruce Mau was born in 1959, so he experienced many changes over time, especially technological advances. In addition his father was a miner, so his family struggled financially. As a result of his upbringing, Mau became a man focused on advancement in society especially technologically. In many interviews he discusses that designers are the future, and are single handedly building a brighter future. In his book, Massive Change, he discusses the need for change amongst an unsustainable environment. Mau is an advocate for increased globalization, peace, and prosperity. He views massive change being headed by the designers of the world.
