Anne Frank lived from 1929 to 1945. Anne's family was Jewish. Anneliese, more commonly known as Anne, moved from Germany to Holland when she was 4. Otto, her dad, worked at a food company as a manager. Edith, her mom, stayed at home with her. In 1940, all Jewish owned businesses were seized. That meant that her family had to think of something fast in order to survive. Fortunately, her dad ended up having a plan which led them to stay alive for a while. 2 years later, they got caught from a tip to the Nazis. Anne died at age 16, but her legacy will live on forever.

Adolf Hitler was the German Dictator of Nazism. He was alive from 1889 to 1945. From 1928-1929, an event started that was called The Great Depression. Even though his mom was Jewish, Hitler decided to promise power and greatness by getting rid of the Jews. His soldiers killed around 6,000,000 Jews in concentration camps before he died. People started to find out the horrible things he had done. Rescuers found dead bodies and knew that they had to do something about it. He married Eva Braun, and then they killed themselves to escape a far worse fate.

Around 1.5 million children were murdered during the Holocaust. This included 1.2 million Jewish children. It included tens of thousands of Gypsy children. This included thousands of institutionalized handicapped children. Nazi persecution, arrests, and deportations were directed against all members of Jewish families without concern for age. Children were taken from their homes and stripped of their childhoods. The children had witnessed the brutal murder of relatives. They faced starvation. They suffered from illnesses and labor. They would only be alive for so long until they were transfered to the gas chambers.

On January 7th, 1945, the concentration camp Auschwitz- Birkenau was liberated. They found 7,000 people alive at those camps. Over millions transported there, 7,000 people was a small number of people surviving. Auschwitz was the original camp. Auschwitz ended up multiplying into three camps. The first one being Auschwitz. The second camp being Birkenau. The third camp being Buna-Monowitz. Auschwitz was more of jail and a place for medical experiments. Birkenau was more of a death camp.

On Sunday, December 7th, 1941, there was an attack on Oahu, Hawaii. That event is a known as the Pearl Harbor bombing. Rather than an attack from Germany, this attack was made from Japan. Pearl Harbor, being located in Hawaii, would make it great grounds for a Naval Base. In 1911, that was finally accomplished. Because the Japan wanted to attack the government, Japan sunk Navy ships. The attack killed 2,390 people. It also left 1,178 people wounded. In 1962, a memorial was built for the people who succumbed to their death on that fateful day.

The religion of Jews is called Judaism. Events related to Judaism include Sabbath, Bar Mitzvahs/Bat Mitzvahs, and Passover. Sabbath is celebrated at the Synagogue. It starts from Friday at sunset, to Saturday after dark. Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs are celebrations of religious responsibility when a boy turns 13 or a girl turns 12. Passover is a festival that celebrates remembering their ancestors who escaped from Egypt. During the winter season, the Jews also have a festival called Hannukah. Hannukah is the celebration of when leader Judah Maccabee drove Syrians out of Jerusalem. Hannukah takes place from December 12 to December 20.

In 1936, the Olympics were set to be held in Germany. By the time the date rolled around, there was a rule that banned Jews to partake in the activities. People were protesting against that rule until Germany finally let Jews participate. Even though Jews were technically allowed, there were certain restrictions for who they would choose. Hitler then used the Olympics as propaganda. A few Jewish Gold Medal Winning Olympic athletes included Gyorgy Brody, Samuel Balter, and Karoly Karpati. Brody competed in water polo. Balter competed in basketball. Karpati competed in freestyle wrestling.
